Ok..now I love my wedding set, 3 stone diamond ring set in platinum 1.50 carats and a diamond wedding band but in the future I was thinking of getting a 3 stone emerald cut ring probably about 1.5 middle stone and .50 on the sides and eventually a diamond anniversary band...

Now I dont necessarily want them to replace my original set..I plan to wear the new emerald cut ring on my right hand and my plain wedding band on my left when and I get it...and then teh anniversary band in the future...

Or should I be changing my original set and trading them in and replacing them with the new rings? I kind of like the idea of keeping my original set even if I dont wear them much in the future...I see loads of people in here upgrading their rings for anniversaries etc....am I really greedy for just wanting more jewelry instead of replacing my old stuff?? lol...

Tell me what you think of my jewelry plans!

Personally, I would keep my original set if you can financially afford it. I originally traded in my 1/2 ct. diamond e-ring and now wish I didn't, but at the time I needed the extra cash. It would have been nice to pass it down to our daughter. Oh well, too late now. Also, the more jewlery the better.

I interchange my rings when I go out depending on what the occasion is. I have many pieces and I wear all of them! PMR

As someone who got a right-hand ring for her anniversary, I've gotta suggest you NOT replace your old set. A gal can never have too much jewelry!

On a more practical level, you may not get all that much for your original set anyway, so why get rid of it. I can't ever imagine upgrading my set; it holds too much sentimental value for me.

Without considering the sentiment and the "more jewelery is better " perspectives, the answer may become obvious, depending on whether you bought your first ring from a jeweler with an upgrade policy or not. I recently upgraded, and hadn't decided whether I wanted to keep or trade in my original stone. It became a no brainer. My stone was uncertified, and didn't come with an upgrade policy. I wasn't going to get much for it, and many vendors just didn't want to bother with it, so it made much more sense to create a great pendant.

If you can afford it and like your original set, I'd keep it. Sentiment aside, you won't get a lot for it unless you have an upgrade policy or manage to sell it privately, which may be a real headache to do.

When people say diamonds are an investment, I shake my head in disbelief. Unless you are buying a famous or VERY rare diamond, as a consumer, you'll never make money, or even break even, selling a second hand diamond.

IMHO, unless you get an upgrade policy, of course, you should only buy a diamond or a piece of diamond jewellery, on the understanding that you love it and will want to keep it forever.

I agree...keep it if possible. You want to add to your collection, not replace it.

Esp since the value is probably more sentimental than monetary at this point, hard to re-sell and make what you paid, much less a profit.
