Here is a video for the experts to provide feedback. J,vs, 0.5 c each. Uncertified. Plan to use for studs. Yey or nay ? Thank you

it's hard to see/say anything since the stones are laying flat... it could be any color or clarity
maybe if they were held by calipers it'd be easier to tell

at .5 each you won't really be able to tell their pattern while they are in your ears
if they price is good, go for it
if not cheap I'd ask for extra close up shots since the stones are uncertified

Here is a close up shot. It’s abt 700$ cheaper than ACAs in same size and clarity. Trying to decide if it’s worth it since they are OECsDCB150E9-D2EF-4FD7-9AE8-DEAE2B839935.jpeg

IMHO they are pretty. OEC's will never perform the same as MRB's though, or especially ACA's. It's not going to light up from edge to edge.
But it's about your preference... is it important to you that they are antiques even through other people won't be able to tell from a distance? For some people it's very important

I vote for the ACA pair. I can see a lot of dark under the table on one of the stones when you tilt your hand. At .5 ct you’re not going to be able to enjoy the faceting of an OEC so it’s all about brightness and sparkle IMHO. Then again, if you have an OEC ER and want to match I can see why you’d want them.

This is interesting. Especially Garry’s comments abt how OECs don’t work as earrings. I have a 1.7 ctw OEC studs that I love, but I have never had superideal mrbs for o compare them too

If owning antique diamonds is important to you this is a way to accomplish that. But IMO, if you don’t seem to fall immediately in love with these (which are pretty by the way) you may want to consider modern ACAs. To me, these diamonds are pretty, but I think a strong OEC vibe is not obvious esp. if you use them as a earrings. Maybe this is because they are smaller diameter stones to begin with. These diamonds seem to have a more splintery light return and larger tables. Light return seems a little mushy to me. They are less chunky, fat faceted and puffy crowned than some antique stones. They are flatter profile (resembling MRBs) versus more three dimensional cut. I own a Transitional cut diamond, these have that form factor. I also own a small, super ideal CBI. Your pair does not jump out at me as having crazy good (laser like) light return, like an ACA would. To be honest, while I greatly prefer antique cuts, for smallish earrings I would either pick antique cuts I fell in love with (mind clean because they are old cuts so to speak) OR superideals. Superideals of this size will be lighting up the room like a lit Sparkler. TBH, that’s what I would suggest you consider for earrings, unless you love love love the cut of these and it’s obvious to you. PS, $700 difference could be eaten up if they are graded a lower color with a GIA Lab Report. So you don’t know true value until you get a GIA cert... and if cost is an issue, you could also set them in less $ settings, etc. Good luck!

Thank you. I was leaning on the experts on this forum since old cuts are so hard to judge. I have a pair of mrb studs and a pair of OEC studs already. However, the mrbs were pre PS days and purchased at a mall store (if I could go back in time ). Maybe ACA is the way to go

My Transitional performs as well as my CBI. But it is larger than most earrings.

i would definitely not purchase these. They are duds, in all honestly. Spend the extra $700 for the ACAs or wait until you feel comfortable spending the extra $ (but don’t wait too long!). The performance you will get in the ACAs will far outweigh the extra $700. There’s absolutely no comparison. These oecs are overpriced (based on the ACAs being only $700 more) and you don’t even know if the color and clarity are what they are saying they are.

Thank you for the feedback. I got excited when I saw them because they are well matched stones. Bland it’s difficult to find that for old cuts. However, as you said, I did not love them right away. I think I will pass on these. Thank you again

Thank you. This is solid advice. I’m passing on them.

Well, call me an outlier on this, but I like them a lot. I think they have a clear floral pattern, they seem clean and white, and their light return in the video is lovely.

I'm not seeing 'duds' at ALL. To my eye, both in the photo - but also in the video - it was clear they were OECs, and the broader facets were obvious.

The only extra thing I'd want is profile shots, since I'd want to make sure they had a nice crown, and that the crowns were similar enough to be considered a match.

And $700 is a LOT, especially since OECs are outstripping MRBs in price these days.

I'd buy them.

ETA. If you've definitely decided to pass on them, could you pls share the name of the vendor so other people can have a chance to consider them? Thanks!

What are the size of the current oecs you have? If they are comparable and the mrbs are mall quality I would be tempted by the ACAs for that reason and then you still have both :)

My current OECs are 1.7 ctw. I love them but you can never have enough bling right ? Lol
I think I will go for ACAs since I don’t have good quality MRBs. Here is a pic of the OEC studs 836245C6-DE64-4EE3-8843-0E86DD6344FE.jpeg

These are from Sincity. Last I checked they were still available

I think going with the ACAs is the best move since you do have the OEC pair (which are really pretty!). I agree with @mrs-b that the pattern on the oec pair is really pretty too. As noted in the thread posted, @Karl_K mentions that oecs that are great as rings aren't necessarily so as pendants, and vice-versa. So idk if that pair would be ideal as studs, or in a piece of jewelry like a ring or bracelet. If you definitely pass on them though, as MrsB said I know people would be interested in knowing the vendor because matches can be sooooo hard to find.

I missed this as I was away, but I think one of these stones is well cut (the one on the right in the closeup photo) and the other is not.
