My fiance and I are getting married Oct 1, 2005 and we are seriously thinking of going to St. Thomas for our honeymoon. We have a tight budget so St. John''s is out of our range. We were planning on staying at an all inclusive resort. I was wondering if anyone here knows anything about the Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort & Spa on St. Thomas. I ran a search and found afew threads about it, but they were a bit old. Has anyone stayed there recently or have any recommendations for an AI resort on St. Thomas?

Our Plan B is to go to an AI in Mexico, so if anyone has any recommendations for there as well those would also be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much. We are really excited about planning our trip. I love checking out this board to hear about everyone else trips! This board is great!

Hey...weren't you the central park carriage ride proposer? Congratulations!! You guys are getting married the day before us!

Sorry, I have no info about St Thomas. St John is a great place tho. (just a short ferry ride away too!).

The Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort & Spa is not bad it is just a preference. Go to www.tripadvisor.com and go to ST. Thomas Hotels and see peoples reviews.

I just got back from St. Thomas, and we stayed at the Sugar Bay resort. We did not opt for the all inclusive package b/c we liked to go out to eat at different places. But, if you don''t get the all inclusive package, to eat the buffet there is $35 per person. I think the all inclusive package is a good deal since everything on the island is so expensive.

The resort had the nicest gym and spa that I''ve ever seen. I wanted a massage, but I got sunburned on the first day.

The rooms were clean, decent sized - a nice room.... not over the top. But...the other hotels that we saw on the island looked similar.

We traveled to St. John on a ferry a few times. It was $3 per person over there and $3 back. Also, if you are the exploring kind of person, and you don''t just like to hang out at your resort the whole time, I highly recommend renting a car. Do not try to walk anywhere from the hotel b/c the roads are very narrow and people drive fast...and on the wrong side of the road - and it''s too far to town and the other beaches! Taxies are $8 to go to town one way. A rental car was about $30 a day. It just depends on what you plan on doing. We also took our rental car over to St. John one day and drove to all kinds of beaches. You can hike to a few, also. To take your car over, it was $50 for both ways.

Let me know if you have any more questions about the hotel or island. We really enjoyed it. I have been to Cozumel and Cancun, but not AI, Mexico. The Virgin Islands had the prettiest beaches of all of them. The scuba diving isn''t nearly as good as Cozumel, though, if that''s your thing. The Virgin Islands were more expensive for food than Mexico.

What a coincidence - I just bought a book on the USVI''s today! we are going there on our honeymoon. Since we are on a budget we chose to stay at a condo, however the book has a bunch of suggestions for hotels. The books is Frommer''s Virgin Islands (It covers the BVI''s too!)

I got it because we plan on "island hopping" while we''re there.

I must tell you, that even though some people think that a condo is NOT the way to go for a honeymoon, we are able to go for 2 weeks instead of 1 and we are going to spend 1 or 2 nights on different islands with the money we sare saving staying in a condo. It''s almost like we will have a honeymoon away from our honeymoon. So if you are on a really tight budget, consider that - or consider staying half the time in a smaller, low key hotel and the last few days at a fancy resort - it''sa good way to get the best of both worlds!!

To check that out, go to www.calypsorealty.com

Also, these websites have been helpful to me:

www.st-thomas.com

www.usvitourism.com

and www.usvi-info.com

Let me know if you have any other questions - my FI goes to St. Thomas every year, and he STILL chose it as our honeymoon, becuae he loves it so much there!!

Good luck!

Thanks for the info! We are also seriously thinking of going to Cancun. We have some freinds that stayed at the Sun Palace and just loved it there. It is also an AI and you have access to several other resorts (Cancun Palce, Moon Palace ect..) and their restaurants. Either way it seems like we can't go wrong. I think that whichever place we don't go to on our honeymoon we will go to on our next vacation. St. Thomas and Cancun both seem like great choices!

- Thansk for the info and the links. They have been very helpful!

PS- Yes I am he Central Park Carriage Proposal Guy. It went really well. New York City was a great place to propose! I miss it a lot, but we are really enjoying living in Raleigh, NC now!
