Perhaps, it's because I'm going through a tad of wedding planning withdrawal or maybe it's because work is really slow this morning, but I thought that I would make a compliation of some of the various sites I found useful for my own wedding. We didn't have very much time to plan (7 months) and I honestly didn't have a particular "vision" that I wanted to pull off -- thus, I needed a lot of inspiration, advice, visual aids, and discount shopping.
We also did a few do-it-yourself projects. I don't know how crafty you are, but I just felt like it made the day a little more personal and special --even though in all honesty it really is only the bride, herself, that appreciates all those little details--
Websites: (hope they help)
The Knothttp://www.theknot.com/
I was skeptical at first, but because I knew so little about how to plan a wedding, I signed up. This is how we made our wedding website, though I know there are other host sites. Because our wedding was a destination wedding, our guests very much appreciated the website. Also, I used the planning bio feature to organize my pictures, which helped me to put it all together. There are also message boards, though they seem to be really catty and the girls are, perhaps, way too into their weddings, so I hardly ever used that particular tool.
Pink and Green Planning Bio
This is the planning website of one very organized knot bride. There are a ton of links I found extremely helpful, like how to create a customized map, checklists for the honeymoon and all sorts of other things. And if your colors are pink and green, she has really gorgeous pictures of pink bouquets.
Wedding Bee
I stumbled upon this site pretty late into the proceess. It's a bunch of brides and brides-to-be in NY, but they seem to have some really good taste and great ideas. This is a place that I found a lot of inspiration, plus they often post discount coupons. generally, they just have really great pictures to give you ideas from flowers to dresses.
White Aisle
Here's where we got our save-the-dates and invites from. It was a good balance of price and the sort of design we wanted. the site also has a bunch of cute potential bridesmaid gifts...
Paper Source
we have an actual store in DC and it's so much fun. I got all the paper for the welcome letters, programs, table numbers, thank yous, stamps, ink etc...
My Own Labels
This is where we got our labels made for the honey favors
Cudge
By far the cheapest place I found to buy reception-related goods like favors and candles.
Save-On-Crafts
I bet your florist will provide the vases for the centerpieces, but since we wanted to paint them yellow -- we got our own. This place was really cheap, like $1 a vase
Blue Tux Shoes
I got my shoes from zappos.com which I would highly recommend. They have no shipping charges and it's really easy to return them if you don't like them. So I ordered a couple of pairs and kept the ones that went best with my dress and returned the others. However, I found out about this website too late. The shoes look great and they have a blue sole which I think is the perfect "something blue".
Thomas Knoell Designs
If you want to wear some pretty things in your hair -- the little hair pin flowers look amazing.
Elizabeth Showers Vintage
I found my little pearl earrings here. I kept checking their sale stuff and it's pretty affordable and they threw in a pair for free as a gift.
Brides Magazine Website
The have some advice, but I basically used this site for pictures of hair and makeup.
Martha Stewart Weddings
another good site for pictures and ideas -- especially of cakes and flowers for some reason. I found our cake idea here
Instyle Weddings
Good for pictures
It's a long list and I'm sure there are many more, but I hope some of it is helpful. I planned so much of the wedding using the internet and I know that certainly isn't for everyone, but at least it helps you find great photos to show the florist, hair person, etc.
