Hi, really interested in these two diamonds however the HCA for the vvs1 is putting me off. Sorry no pics as none provided by vendor, will have to confirm myself location of feather on the VS2.

Diamond 1 (GIA):
0.54 carat
Colour E
Clarity VS2 >>>> feather/pinpoint
Cut/symmetry/polish EX EX EX
Faint FL, colour not specified.
HCA score 1.2, EX EX VG VG
Depth 60.7%
Table 56%
Crown angle 34%
Pavilion angle 41%

DIamond 2 (GIA):
0.5 carat
Colour E
Clarity VVS1 >>>> pinpoint/surface graining
Cut/symmetry/polish EX EX EX
No FL
HCA score 3.9, VG, G, G, VG
Depth 62.6%
Table 56%
Crown angle 35.5%
Pavilion angle 41%

Diamond two is only £100 more, aside from the HCA it is worth a lot more. So which would you go for? Thanks for any input ^_^.

I am curious. On what basis do you determine that it is worth a "LOT" more?

Well I am using this site: http://www.diamond-heaven.co.uk/product-detail.cfm?theProductID=54F91A9B-99FF-1099-A313E51714887736#.U0BYjVdBq70

Putting the specifications into that, I am sure there are better places to compare though. If you don't think it's worth much more then that will help my decision too :). Btw I had to compensate for the 0.54 vs 0.5 since that site only lets you go 0.5-6. I figure according to that comparison it's worth about £400 more according to the site. This is a crude method of comparison I know.

Thanks :).

With GIA's ridiculous rounding it is difficult to try to figure out the AGS grade that these diamonds might have.

You do not give us the measurements of the diamonds so I have tried to use the DiamCalc 6mm model and adjust the numbers to fit the angles that you give. The top stone is right on the border between an AGS0 cut grade and an AGS1 cut grade and could go either way depending on the rounding on the certs that you are looking at.

The second stone Has an AGS cut grade estimate of 4.

To my way of thinking it is not worth owning at any price unless you like steep deep stones with a nice ring of leakage under the table that will let it look nice and dark centered.

I do not have time to go look at the site you proposed, but I can say that if you ask here there are a LOT of people who will help you find better stones.

The first one you presented to us may well be a keeper. It is very likely eye clean and certainly a better VALUE than the second.

Thanks a lot for the reply, very informative. I didn't know about the diamcalc I'm new here so thanks for that! I am Looking into it now, looks like a very cool tool. Unfortunately I only have 1 vendor's choice of diamonds as I am exchanging with them since they sold me an extremely thin to medium faceted girdle diamond in an exposed e ring setting, which I later found out wasn't a great idea. It's actually an amazing looking diamond but just don't fancy taking the risk on it.

I agree with what you have said about the first being better value taking into account your input :).

Edit - where do you go to find out the AGS cut grade or is that just something you know?

Here are the measurements for the first diamond as I've discounted the second now:

5.29 - 5.31 x 3.2mm

A few other details I left out:

Crown height 15%
Pavilion depth 43%
Star length 55%
Lower half 80%
Girdle thin to medium faceted, 3%

You are welcome, and wise. Having an extremely thin and exposed girdle is not a good idea.
