There are 3 6-prong solitaire engagement setting from whiteflash that caught my eye, I thought they all looked the same initially, but talking to the whiteflash consultant, she pointed out the differences

1) Platinum contemporary: The shank has the most noticeable taper, pinching in near the basket.

2) Platinum Elegant: The head sits a bit lower and has a more rounded shank

3) Platinum exquisite half round: flat edge

I think I like the exquisite the most (simple). Then I saw Vatche U-113 6-prong solitaire Engagement:

It looks very similar to 3). But it is priced at 1800 as compared to 1250. I think obviously there are style differences. I am just wondering if the price difference is just due to the brand, or if there is quality difference.

I am hoping the ladies here who gone through the process and looked at these setting can help me out.

Vatche U-113 is a very good Tiffany solitaire replica with the shank of the ring being slightly thinner than the actual Tiffany. It has a knife edge shank, just like the real Tiffany and prongs that look very close to the real Tiffany.

WF also offers their own version of a 6-prong knife edge Tiffany style setting. By default this setting is not as close to the real Tiffany setting as Vatche U-113. But you can request modifications to it for a few hundred dollars additional. With modifications, the ring can be made very similar to the real Tiffany as well, while still keeping the cost to a few hundred below the cost of the U-113. The folks here who have the WF version mostly chose to have it made with the modifications.

There was a long discussion on this thread regarding these Tiffany style knife edge settings.

The other WF settings really are just variations of the same ring, but with different "shaped" shanks. Some being more rounded and pinched.

This is the WF version of the Vatche U-113. Both are repros of the classic Tiffany knife edge setting.

I would get the WF version with modifications that add a little to the price. Mainly, be sure the shank is thinned down to 2.0-2.2 mm depending on the size of your diamond. Some tell them to soften the knife edge, but it wouldn't actually be sharp so I don't know that I would even say that. You can have the classic Tiffany tab prongs or go with claw prongs, if you like those better. I would ask for a harder platinum alloy of either 95%platinum/5%ruthenium or 90%platinum/10%iridium as both are harder than the standard kind. Hopefully there are pictures and links to the WF version in that link that carebear posted for you! I have the Vatche and love it, but I'd be fine with the WF one with the mods.

I have the WF setting with modifications (thinner band, medium set diamond, delicate claw prongs, 90/10 irradium blend). It was several $100 less and was ready in 3 weeks. I love it! If you like the nubby prongs that Tiffany offers, then I'd prob do the U113.

Then perhaps the 'Platinum Contemporary Solitaire' or 'Platinum Exquisite Half Round Solitaire' is better for you. The only difference between these two is one has "pinched" shank near the head of the setting.
You can request the diamond to be set higher or lower depending on preference. I find that with WF, it is best to provide them with photo examples. And please take Diamondseeker's advice to request for platinum alloy of either 95%platinum/5%ruthenium or 90%platinum/10%iridium!

I love the Whiteflash Contemporary Solitaire (the one with the tapering towards the diamond). It has beautiful proportions. This was one of my top picks for my recent ring, but was a little out of budget for me. I'm biased towards tapering (both towards and away from the diamond) because I think it really showcases the diamond, so take my opinion for what it's worth.

I have the WF setting with modifications (thinner band,

@HappyNewLife I know this is an old post but hopefully you’ll see it! Your ring and setting are absolutely perfect. Do you recall how “thin” you asked for the band to be? Did you give specific direction, or did WF just do their thing?
