Is this anyone's here?! Please tag them if so, I have questions!!!
:kiss2:

I am about a week or so away from viewing my 3-carat-range stones!! I have decided on a knife edge ring, but the details are still slightly up in the air. I was suggested to look into the vatche u113, there seems to be so many variations of it depending on the stone size. Does anyone know the width of it, I can't seem to find anything.

My inspo ring is apparently a 2mm in width (see attached photo), what I didn't consider when trying it on is that the stone itself was plastic, so I actually don't know if a 2mm is too thin for a 3 carat regarding its stability.

This version in the video has a slightly larger graduating taper, and I wonder if this is to prevent it from spinning? Does anyone have advice/experience on a 3 carat range stone, and if there is a certain millimeter shank to ensure this does not happen.

Any feedback is welcomed!

Oooooh that is GORGEOUS. I particularly like the height of the stone. It looks nice and low (which I prefer).

I’m waiting on an ACA that will be set in a U113 so I am following this with interest. I think you are correct about the reverse taper up to the stone. Interested to see if this was in fact why it was done b/c my knuckles are bigger than where my ring sits.

To prevent spinning, my intuition would be to make the shank thicker at the bottom (to counterbalance the stone), but I would love to hear from the person whose ring this is, and others as well!

Well darn. I just looked up the video and it is from May of 2017. That is going to make it much harder to track down info about this setting.

Here is info from Whiteflash’s website on it. Scroll down to see width measurements.

I actually just saw 2.4mm when I googled!

It's interesting because I feel there is a variation in width, and in fact, sharpness of the knife edge from ring to ring. Have you noticed that at all?

My current setting is similar in the sense that it graduates larger in a very similar fashion. I'm going to guess its width increases from 2mm up to 2.8mm (mine actually goes to 3mm, but I think this setting is slightly narrower).

Depending on your stone size, you may want to adjust the ratios, this was too wide for my 1.42 carat. I like wider shanks, but it could have standed to have a bit less width.

I add sizing “bumps” to my larger rings to stop the spinning. One more trick that can help. Stops the spin and I can’t feel them.

I do think that through the years here on PS some folks have requested some modifications. Some have asked for the knife edge to be softened a bit but I also seem to recall somewhere along the line that Vatche may have balked at modifications. You can probably search here for Vatche U 113 and see other people who have gotten this setting. Seems like most did not find the knife edge to be to harsh though.

Ahh, that could very well be it. I do actually prefer a sharper knife edge, the one in the video seems quite softened. Same issue, that setting is not available anywhere here in Canada to try on lol, it seems like this task is more dauting than finding the stone itself.

When I asked for the price of my inspo setting where I tried it on, 2k and they won't set an outside stone :confused2:

You could contact Whiteflash and ask them about setting an outside stone.

I had read on their page that they don't sell the setting alone?

Also, I wanted to ask, what is the hole for beneath the diamond in the ring itself. At first I wasn't sure about the detail in the ring that I tried on, but I actually think it looks nice in the video. Not sure if there is any purpose for it?

No, because the ring is made for the particular size stone. Just thinking if you wanted to buy it from a vendor that you could maybe send them your stone for setting.

I assume the holes are either a design element or for easier cleaning of the diamond.

Might want to start sweeping through your local jewelers to see if any would be willing to get the setting through Vatche's direct B2B channel:

I don't see the option for a Canadian to sign up, only allows US.

I am not sure they would sell directly to a customer - I am thinking it would have to be a vendor to actually buy it for setting. Are there no jewelers in your area that carry Vatche?
Does the vendor you are buying your stone from not carry Vatche either? Generally speaking, it is better to get the diamond and the setting from the same vendor. They will usually cover insurance while setting, etc. Some insurance companies won’t cover shipping a loose stone either but some vendors, if shipping under their label, will cover it during shipping.

That is too bad. However, didn’t you have your ideal setting worked out and a jeweler to make it? Did you change your mind on that idea?

That was just someone to do the CAD rendering for me, I felt it was easier to hire someone so I could have it printed first to ensure its what I wanted before inquiring about having it made. I soon realized that I didn't want the eternity, although I still love the look, I felt it took away from an already large center stone.

Now I just want a simple look with a wider wedding band and solitaire ER. I have decided on this look, but I felt the setting sat too low, I was suggested to consider the U113, but its near impossible lol.

See photo below, if the donut was raised, I'd be much happier. They still will not set the stone in house unless purchased there. It's one obstacle after another.

I love itt!! Question!! What is the height from the basket to the top of your stone. Although my stone will be a tad bigger, this would help me so much!!

Think the average height of the stones I have coming in is 5.72mm

**Edit, I meant from the donut to the top of your stone

Unfortunately I don’t know as I don’t have calipers to measure!

This is what I did! I don't expect you to pull out a tape measure to measure lol, but if you think of it and have one, that would be great

Thank you :D
