I have the world's best apartment, and the world's worst neighbors. I am seriously about to lose it. I live in the coolest loft apartment, literally across the street from my job. I love it. BUT these girls live next to me, and they have had a party EVERY single night this week. I am exhausted, and have a million things to do early tomorrow, but I can't sleep because of them.

I know, I know, I should say something. But these girls are AWFUL. The guy that lives below them used to complain and call the cops, and they would stomp on their floor and yell loudly at him or run their vacuum at 1am to make him mad. All the while screaming and torturing us, too.

I don't want to start WWIII at all, I would love to be pleasant and friendly, since surely I make noise sometimes too. I am just at my wits end with these girls and don't know what to do

Any advice, wise PSers??

ETA: OH thank God, I just heard one of the guys say "lets all go...get in the cab!" so it looks like I will get to sleep after all. But yes, the walls are so thin I could hear him say that.

And I forgot to add, they have 2 REALLY yippy little dogs that are only yippy when they get left alone for long periods, which is often

OK...end vent

Have you tried talking to your landlord? Perhaps if you and your downstairs neighbor go together the LL will be pressured to do something. I''m sorry, that''s got to suck!

Hey Lucky...thanks for the idea. I forgot to mention a key problem...we live in condos. They rent theirs, and their property managers used to run ours as well but ours got bought and now we have different landlords. There isnt a main landlord.

BUT that got me thinking, maybe I could talk to my landlord and she could mention it to the condo assoc? Or something similar?

Yes the condo association could maybe address the issue. I''m sorry you have horrible neighbors... we do also. We love our apartment but the new people next to us blast country music every day and have parties. The people above us must be elephants because they sure do sound like they weigh a couple of tons. They also have a yippy dog who they lock in the bathroom all day. Good Luck getting your problem addressed!

I just want to say that I completely understand and that I''m so sorry.

I''m in the exact same situation--I love our apartment, but new neighbors moved in a month ago and we can''t take it anymore. They are so loud and are up all hours of the night. It''s impossible to go to sleep because of all the noise. I end up sleeping in the guest bedroom most nights because it''s a little quieter in there.

I would recommend talking with the condo association first. We talked with our landlords about it and they were very understanding and met with the other tenants to discuss some of the issues. Unfortunately for us, it hasn''t solved anything, but it might work for you!

As much as we love our apartment, we''ve decided to move (back into a single family home). The problem is that we couldn''t find one we loved as much as our apartment. In fact, we saw 6 homes before we decided to apply to rent one...and we didn''t even get it, haha. We''re back to searching and knowing that we are going to have to live under these insanely noisy neighbors for at least 2 more weeks is frustrating.

Good luck to you! I hope it works out!

I feel you! I also have an amazing apartment, but I live above obnoxious people myself. They have crazy loud parties pretty often and sometimes there are super loud fights at these parties! Last time they had a party someone punched out the glass windowpanes in the back door and there was BLOOD on the back stairs! I would complain to the condo board and your landlord and I would call the cops on them, personally. I hate crappy neighbors-they just ruin an apartment! (And this is the main reason why I will never buy a condo. So many people rent them out and then you''re stuck with a bunch of college kids for your neighbor.)

As for the yippy dogs, my other neighbor had a dog he would leave alone for way too long and it would bark and howl and seriously depress me, so I wrote a note and put it on his door about how miserable his dog sounded and how he needed to spend more time with it. I think it worked because the dog stopped barking so much. Maybe try that, although they sound like obnoxious little brats who won''t care.

I would contact both the HOA and the property manager to be sure one of them takes care of the problem.

Gosh, that is so awful; those girls sound selfish. I am so sorry; I will send PS dust that they cut it out! Hugs!

Thanks guys for the responses!!

I think I am going to start by talking to my landlord. We also have a police officer that lives in the building we are supposed to be able to call. I see him all the time when I am taking my dog out, so I may just ask him if he wouldn''t mind to say something to them or at least keep an eye/ear on the situation.

Sounds like a wonderful solution! I''m so sorry that you have to deal with that. We''ve had similar problems in the past. In my old apartment, the people across the hall used to let their dog pee in the hallway! The same dog that barked at all hours....

i feel for ya. bad neighbors in an apartment building can be so frustrating.

my last apartment was a condo. when the apartment down the hall sold, the couple who moved in would leave things in the hallway... not just a few pairs of shoes and umbrella, but smelly garbage, empty pizza boxes, even bags of used kitty litter (no garbage chute). their door was right at the top of the stairs so you literally had to step over their mess to leave the building. this happened right around the time i listed my place for sale (great for the sales pitch

). talking to them on several occasions changed things for about 36 hours, but then their nastiness would be right back in the hallway. fortunately, soon after they moved in, i sold my place and moved out.

have you tried speaking with these girls face to face? you know, like kill 'em with kindness? if you're super polite and blame the thin walls rather than them, maybe they'll be embarrassed enough to quiet down a bit. if that doesn't work, i'd make repeated complaints to your landlord and theirs. the more documentation you have, the better... so if need be, call the cops too (but request they keep your name anonymous so your neighbors don't try and retaliate!)

hope you get this frustrating situation sorted out soon
