Very Upset at local jeweler =(

I have finally decided to take the plunge and custom make my three stone diamond ring at a local jewelry store where I live (Bahrain). I had fallen in love with the three stone trellis setting and had printed as many angles as possible of the design and presented it to the jeweler. I had already purchased my diamonds and only needed to get the setting made.

Needless to say, that after a few weeks of waiting and painstakingly explaining everything to the jeweler a 101 times to make sure he understood exactly what I wanted, he had completely ruined the job. He had shown me the sample ring prior to setting the stones in and it had a lot of errors that I had requested to first be fixed, to be shown the sample again and once they receive the go ahead to then finalize the ring and set the stones. So! I get a call yesterday to come see the ring and I walk in expecting to see the sample design again but it turns out that he had done the complete ring, set the diamonds and was ready to pass it on to me!! None of the things I had told him to fix were fixed, the setting looked horrendous (even if the diamonds looked gorgeous!)

I walked out of the store very upset and he said that he would try to fix it but he cannot guarantee anything and the best that he could do is give me back the loose diamonds and not charge me for the botched up setting.

I then immediately contacted Blue Nile (as I had first seen the ring there) and Ed told me that unfortunately they do not sell the setting alone or would not work with diamonds bought from a different vendor, which I completely understand.

Can anyone please let me know if there are any online vendors who can provide me with the Three Stone Trellis setting in 18K white gold? I am genuinely upset and the reason I had gone to a local vendor was to make it easier for me to see the ring and the progress (as I live far away and the thought of having to send the diamonds via courier just freaks me out!)

what is the three stone trellis setting???

WhiteFlash is an online vendor that does excellent custom work and possibly could build you something from images.

also there is PlatinumSmith (is he in AU?) on here who a few people have worked with and had amazing pieces made.

edited to add: oh it seems like it's a BN setting? I'm sure that it could be replicated or you could do something very similar and maybe add a few personal elements of your own?

Hi Mara.. thanks for the reply. I am attaching a copy of the setting I am talking about and yeah, I have found it at Blue Nile. i did find some similar setting with A.Jaffe and Vatche, but not quite wat i was looking for..

I hope the pictures comes out okay and not too big!

does he have a website i can look at or can u pass me his contact information??

If u dont mind me asking, how long does it usually take for him to design the rings until he ships them? and does he work with diamonds from other vendors or will he only design your ring if you purchase the diamonds from him too?

The first piece of jewelry he made for me can be found here - from our first contact to completion of the ring took slightly more than 2 wks. I had my own stone for this project, and he provided the melee for the ring. Most of the other projects were done with stones I purchased from him - he sourced the stones for me after getting an idea of what I wanted. He is very intuitive about what I wanted in my jewelry, and I have been absolutely rapt with all the masterpieces he''s made for me!

Camellia also has quite a few PlatinumSmith masterpieces!

Hi everyone! for those of you have read my story, I have contacted PlatinumSmith who was very helpful and understanding, and he has returned with the following stones for me, I would appreciate if you could look at the certificates and let me know what you think.

Once again, I am looking for a three stone ring and with the stone options he gave me, I will be selecting the 0.44cts for the side stones and the 0.60cts for the center stone.

I''m sorry, but I''m not crazy on either of these. The .60 I like the least with 63% depth, girdle variation and a 60% table. The .44 is a tad deep and the 58% table is getting big for my liking. Personally I would pass on both, but I am picky.

There are tons of stones in that size range. Why skip two color grades with a three stone ring. Why not get all VS2/SI1 Gs or Fs? Not that hard to find.

i think you need more diameter on the center stone or a smaller diameter for the side stones,to make it look right. JMO

I think the proportion of 40-60-40 is perfect.

By the way, I offered other stones and more certs which were AGS0 VS1 & VVS2 all E colour, but the budget doesn''t allow for that. The wholesalers in Australia are way over budget as are some international wholesalers and the one I like to use has very little to choose from under VS and F, not a bad thing, but I hope you understand my limitations when trying to work within a budget.

I don''t try to make my money by selling stones, but by making the best jewellery I possibly can.

I have seen many pieces done by platinumsmith and I think you should trust his opinion. He does beautiful work and takes pride in how it looks. I don''t think you have a thing to worry about
