Hi everyone. I am a longtime fan of Pricescope but this is my first time posting. From this forum, I was able to set my fancy intense yellow radiant into a fabulous setting that makes me smile every time I look down on my hand.
My husband bought me my 1.6 carat VVS2 fancy intense yellow diamond about six years ago as an anniversary gift. The jeweler from whom we bought the stone insisted that we at least put it in a simple setting until I made a decision about a permanent one. I wore the stone as a solitaire for many years and even though I loved the diamond, it made me a little sad that I wasn’t dazzled by the lonely setting. I kept searching for a setting until last year.
I chose Victor Canera because I fell in love with a beautiful aquamarine ring he made. His sapphire trilogy, Alexia, blew my socks off. I started conversations with him in the spring of 2014 and flew out to meet him in late October.
Victor’s aquamarine trilogy was the starting point for the design and from there I wanted a halo to frame the yellow radiant. I opted for a single row u-cut pave shank rather than a three row pave shank only because I am active and didn’t want to think too much about the ring when I wore it. As a side note, while the ring was being made, I began to pay attention to how much I use my left hand. Whether it’s left-handed high fives with my tennis partner or carrying scuba equipment that always seems to mysteriously cut my fingers, I was surprised how many potential situations could damage a ring. I have since decided to leave the ring in a safe place rather than wear it during those activities.
The prongs are in yellow gold and there is no gold enhancement cup underneath the stone. Whether or not to get a gold enhancement cup was a big decision but the color saturation in the center stone is pretty strong so it holds its own very nicely, I think. Having said that, I do find that in different lighting, particularly yellow lighting, the yellow in the stone does not seem as intense and I wonder if a gold enhancement cup might have made the color more consistent across all lighting situations. Nevertheless, I am pleased.
I found Victor to be very accessible and easy to work with. I didn’t have any problems during the process. He was professional and served as a good guide as to what would work and what wouldn’t. While he was able to accommodate my preferences, it was also important to let him lead the project in order to get the proportions done in a way that works. I did go ahead and have him make a platinum spacer for a future band. I wouldn’t hesitate to use him again and hope that he will make a band to complement my ring. I am now dazzled and extremely happy! Thank you, Victor – I love it!!!
