Victorian locket composition?

Hello! I’ve had my eye on an antique locket for at least a year now. I’m curious what you think of the inside frames, and if you know whether it was customary to make the outside of a locket out of one metal and have the inside be another metal. The seller mentions only 15k gold in the composition, but the inside frames don’t look like gold to me. Or might that be dirt? Thoughts welcome!

This might seem like an odd and overly specific question, but I recently had a big disappointment with a piece that was marketed as gold and was upon testing gilt brass. So before I buy, I’m asking for advice from you people - I’m still a newbie, and you’re so much more knowledgeable than I am!

Pictures, and thank you in advance!

your recent disappoint disappointed me also:cry2:
that locket is very striking

lesser karat gold does get - im not sure if its tarnis? but it gets discoloured
i had an old ring that looked like brass polish up to be 9k rose gold

too bad the stone was glass :lol-2:

@Daisys and Diamonds, I think I remember that post of yours! Did the ring have a pink stone? I loved that pink!

I realise I forgot to put the listing here as well, and it’s too late to edit my initial post.

That frame doesn't look like gold to me.
Maybe you could ask the seller how they tested for gold content

It looks quite suspicious to me and my husband too. That’s a good suggestion, thank you!

i so what that locket to be waht it says it is

yes, it was pink
there was a slim possibility it was a synthetic pink tourmalin, but it was glass
its going to cost too much to have all the prongs repaired so i might just have it made into a pendent as is,
the thing is that ring cost me zero, it just turned up in a pile of my mum's stuff my sister ddint want, and its way too big to have belonged to any of mum's family

the price for this locket is a lot more than zero !
have seen so many beautiful lockets on our customers at work since i started looking out for them, this one you have your eye on is so lovely

Thank you, sweet Daisy! As you can imagine, I’m pretty averse to risk right now. :lol-2: And indeed, this costs a pretty penny (for me, anyway.) This is the same seller I bought my ruby ring from, and the rubies seem to be natural under a loupe, so I was dearly hoping this would check out. Like you, I too am still very much hoping this turns out what it should be…
