I''m thinking that my 0.93 is gonna be a keeper! When my BFF saw it yesterday, she about fainted! She went on and on about how beautiful and HUGE (it looked to her) and it made me feel so much better about it all. Though DH still thinks my orignal stone looks better

So I''m starting to get into the nitty-gritty about my new semi-mout!

I''ve always wanted a lovely vintage ring with a lovey old stone BUT, since I can''t afford the one I want, why not model my new ring after it, right?!

My question to you is, would a vintage-style ring look "off" with new cut stones?

One custom designer said he could make my ring with old single cut side stones if I''d perfer, but I just dunno if that would look right with a H&A center

Here''s an idea of the direction I''m heading stylewise - but w/o the milgrain...Thoughts? Suggestions? Ideas?

NO - a vintage setting is perfectly fine with any cut stones!!!!!! This example looks fabulous to me!!!!!!!

Metro, that set is very pretty! I''m think though, that you might want full cut brilliant melee if your center is a modern RB. There will be a noticeable difference in how single cuts perform compared to the shimmering sparkle of RB melee and I think the contrast will be too different. I''ve seen new stones in old settings and it looks off to me. But if you''re having that setting made new for you, minus the millegrain, I think it will work, but with tiny RB melee...just my opinion though...I''ve been known to be wrong on occasion!

The picture I posted above isn''t the actual ring I''m modeling. I posted that pic to give an idea of the vintage style w/the channel band, but I should have posted the design a little closer to ring I''m duplicating. Actually, I''ll just to post a pic of the actual ring even though it''s not good pic.

The ring is from 1920''s and is pictured with a 0.77 oec. The basket is squared off with the prong and sits low. There are three 0.02 single cut stones on each side of the main stone that sit in little "V" shaped designs - these diamonds are bead set. There is also a little key-hole detail. The shank is knife-edged and about 3mm. There is no milgrain or scrolling. I know I''m not explaining it well and this pic doesn''t do it justice at all! This was so beautiful on and it looked great with my wedding band! THIS IS SO ME!

There is a PS member who has a ring very similar to the one I''m modeling my new ring after...Gotta find her name/pics.

That is a beautiful ring Metro! I think that a modern cut RB would look stunning in that setting, but I do think that the melee should be the same cut.

I love it.
