Hi ladies. I have enjoyed reading all of your posts about your upcoming weddings that when my sister got engaged last month I directed her immediately to PS.

She is a little shy at posting, so after we had a long discussion on the phone last night about wedding dresses I thought I''d post to see if I can get your help.

I know so many of you have searched high and low for your perfect wedding dresses, and my sister has something 1950''s inspired in mind for her wedding. Think Marilyn Monroe in "How to Marry a Millionaire." I found this gorgeous dress on a vintage site but it is sold.

Has anyone seen any short vintage type dresses during any of their searches? My sister has a full bust and she would rather not wear something strapless, or spaghetti strapped.

Any help you ladies could offer would really help her out(and me since I am having no luck as the MoH!)

Thanks so much!

You might want to try here. Good luck in your search.

try this site
http://www.vintagewedding.com/

or also, the dress you posted seems as though a dressmaker/seamstress should be able to recreate- check for a dressmaker in your area-

good luck!

I can personally vouch for the awesomeness of Vintage Textile, but you might also want to take a look at The Frock and Vintageous.

I also agree that a dress like that could be easily made to order. That way, your sister could get exactly what she wants and it will fit perfectly.

Good Luck!

Okay, I am completely in LOVE with this dress from The Frock!

Wow! Needless to say I have sent my sister everyone''s suggestions and spent HOURS online myself tonight looking through all the options.

Fatafelice, thanks so much for the picture of the dress- that is the closest thing I have seen. My sis said she had already checked out Vintageous but the Frock was a new one.

Thanks for all of your help.

Hey, on a side note (I should probably just start another thread for this question, but...)- has anyone ever had the back of their wedding dress converted into a a corset-style back (assuming it wasnt to begin with of course!)?

It seems nearly every dress we see out there is strapless and my poor sister always seems to busty in them considering strapless bras for really busty women always seem to suck! I read on Brides.com today that some woman with the same size chest as my sister found a corset dress that fit so well she didnt even need a bra! Now that is a well fitting dress!

I had never heard of anyone (and we''re talking 36DDD) that didn''t NEED a bra for a strapless dress! Anyone else familiar with this type of scenario?

Hmmm, no. As a 32D bride myself, I have had a hard time finding the right corset top, but there are TONS out there. It''s only because I''m a 32 that it''s hard, if I were slightly bigger I actually think it would be easier.

And just FYI: There are TONS of wedding dresses right now that can be customized with sleeves (Jasmine Bridal and David''s to name a few) as well as quite a few not-strapless dresses out there too. If she hasn''t found many, I would say keep looking because I tried on a ton during my search, so they''re out there!

I would honestly tell her to try local vintage stores and the salvation army/goodwill. They always have a ton of wedding dresses and she might get lucky for cheap!

The corsetted tops of Maggie Sottero gowns are amazingly secure and they feel VERY supportive. I won''t be using a bra (for support. I will probably use a Nubra for a little push-up shaping, though) in my MS gown and I''m a 36C. I wonder if other Maggie brides with fuller chests than I can speak to the effectiveness of the corsetted tops? I didn''t do a walk thru to see if any of her styles are 50''s inspired, but I did include a link in case you''d like to

Hi Shi,

I''m sorry I can''t help you with your search but I wanted to let you know how much I LOVE the dress you and your sister found. It''s so pretty! I wish you the best of luck in finding a similar one. I''ll do some clicking around and see what I can find.

Thanks again to all of you. I think sis and I will probably try to hit David''s Bridal and some others this week just to try out the corset theory!

Thanks again for the Maggie Sottero link- if this was my wedding, that''s what I''d be wearing!

Zoe- thanks for the vote of confidence. My sis is a very classy girl and I think she would look stunning in something like that. Let me know if you find anything! She may just end up trying to see if we can get someone to replicate it for us. We''ll see!

My seamstress converted the back of my dress to a corset-style for exactly that reason - I''m a 34DD and she managed to do it in such a way that it gave enough support and I didn''t need anything else underneath.

AmberGretchen- what city is your seamstress in? And do you mind if I ask how much that cost?
