VS2 messy plot chart - does it matter?

Hi everyone! I am eyeing a complete ring—adore the setting—but the VS2 diamond's report is giving me some pause. I have no idea how to read a plot chart. Is it possible to say whether the clarity notes and plot chart pose a concern for the stone's structural integrity or a meaningful impediment to performance? Seller says no black/carbon spots and returns are possible with a fee. I don't mind at all if the diamond is messy on paper. If I purchase it, I'd prefer not to return it, as the idea of mailing something this expensive cross-country twice gives me hives. Hoping someone with more expertise can give me some assurance or tell me firmly to stay away! Thank you :)

Is this a true antique stone? I'm not too concerned with what I'm seeing on the clarity plot.

We give antique stones a bit of grace for not having the prettiest of clarity plots. At VS2 I would not be too worried.

How does it look in up close pictures (just curious)?

Have you seen magnified images? The vendor said no dark or black inclusions, but did they say whether any inclusions are eye visible under normal viewing conditions (arms length)?

Usually VS2 is pretty safe. My diamond is SI2 and I can’t see the I inclusions with my naked eye. But it’s impossible to judge by the paper.

One perspective is ... for GIA to grade it VS2 with that many inclusions strongly suggests each inclusion must be pretty minor.

But a GIA VS2 with only one inclusion is more likely to be a concern.

Kenny hit the head on the nose! Wait…he hit the nail on the head??
in any event, I agree.
Trying to ascertain physical attributes of imperfection using the GIA plot is generally useless……except in cases like this. Seeing so many clarity characteristics in a VS2 means they are all minor.

To elaborate a little further....
When I say "minor" I mean you'd have to look very carefully with a 10X loupe to see the imperfections.
I like to remind folks that clarity grading is based on the presence of imperfection, as opposed to its visibility.
This results in VS2s that may have a tiny, yet easy to see with the naked eye crystal in the table.....and also an I1 with the feather in a spot below the girdle where you need to look closely with a loupe to find the imperfection.
Eye clean I1 diamonds exist. They are rare, it's true.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts! Sounds like from the seller and your comments that it’ll take some close peering through macro mode or a loupe to see anything, and definitely eye clean.

It’s an antique OEC with facets and girdle that got cleaned up. I’m very excited!

Stunning! What is the size?

Amazing stone,

I agree with friends about the inclusion.

I just want to say that, if it's an antique OEC stone its cut is nice, but if it has been cut recently I would be concerned with the symmetry and the Polish grade rather than the clarity grade.

Also, the fact that OEC cut can show more fire because of larger facets in comparison to modern cut makes this amazing large stone so lovely.

Stunning! What is the size?

1.76ct I in an MC2 setting. According to Wally McTeigue, it took five artisans to make and finish the hand-pierced setting. Can't wait to see it, it's theoretically coming tomorrow!

It’s here! We are utterly thrilled! I have examined what feels like every facet but can’t see a single inclusion. The diamond is bright, contrasty, twinkly, and full of life. I love the human asymmetries in the setting details. I need to get the ring resized so was thinking about any other changes I'd request—do the prongs look like they need adjusting to anyone else? The one at 10 o'clock makes me slightly nervous.

Thank you to everyone who commented to assuage my concerns between this and the peruzzi—I’m lucky and grateful that I found a stone and a stone + ring that are so endlessly dreamy to me. Sorry in advance for the terrible diamond photography.

Gorgeous and the make on that OEC is *chef’s kiss*. It wouldn’t have even mattered to me if it did have eye visible inclusions, that’s how nice it is lol My own diamond has an inclusion near the girdle that I can see with a loupe and I forgive her because her cut is divine. But it’s obviously a bonus that your diamond is so clean.

I’m totally unsurprised that a diamond in such a high end setting is a very nice make though. I imagine it was either purchased by the designers specifically for one of their creations, or someone must have thought it was amazing enough to warrant putting it in a setting that likely cost nearly as much as the diamond itself! Truly, a real treasure. I would love to own something so fine.

How did you find it?
