I''ve got about 100 invites so just reply to this thread or PM me with your email and I will send you an invite.

For those of you who don''t know, gmail is run by Google, and is a free web based email account with over 2GB of storage. You can go to gmail.com for more info if you''re interested. Personally, I love the interface and you can import your address book etc... and get mail fwded from other accounts also.

I''ll be doing this on a first come first serve basis until I run out! Alright, ready... set.. GO!

I''ve still got a ton of invites left... do all you people already have gmail already or what?! I can''t get rid of these things! Sigh...

Anyone who wants multiple invites... just let me know!

There is a very popular service in which people can donate their invites and anyone who wants one can just email them and get one. LINK I haven''t really had any experience with them, but I googled them and found a bunch of sites recommending them, so they seem to be legit. Just an FYI.

gmail is great! you can also POP-able...so you can use Outlook to dl the messages to your blackberry...blueberry..i forget what berry it is! or your PDA. But very good email service, especially when ppl keep emailing back and forth on one subject...it keeps it all as one message line so it doesn't look like you get spammed.

oh but flopkins...you'll get back all the invites again, cuz even when i try to give it away..they keep giving you more!

I''ve heard about this, of course, as a friend or two have one. Could someone say more...like:

- why there are invites for them?
- Why someone takes advantage (since presumably, you already have an e-mail facility, and so for any user, this would be just another?).

When gmail first came online there were only a few thousand users allowed to test it.
They allowed those few thousand to invite their friends and it took off from there.
It wasnt planned that way but it turned into a great marketing tool for them so they continued it.

2GB of online storage free and available from anywhere is the main reason I have it.
But then again I have 20 email accounts I use all the time so im a little email crazy LOL.

Anyone else out there still holding back- I''ve still got plenty of invites, just keep PMing me with your email! (I need a valid email to send an invite through their system, I am not trying to get personal info nor am I going to spam you; if this concerns you use an anonymous acct such as hotmail or yahoo please.)

Stretch4- there are many sites like this on the internet - one was gmailswap, where people who wanted an invite would post their ''offer'' in exchange for a gmail account... and where ppl who had invites could post what they would like in exchange for an account. Needless to say, back when invites were scarce, there were some *very* interesting offers being made! (the admins did regulate the postings, however, so offers of ''personal services'' were prohibited and deleted) Some were just plain fun though, like a postcard from another country, or a duct tape wallet, or some such random thing.

In any case, I''ve given away a lot of invites that way too, but thought I would like to share with the PSers!

tulipcloud- I really enjoy using my acct too, and yes, they do just give you more, but oh well, share the love!

Ira- I think the invites are, like strm mentioned, because the initial release was limited, as it was a beta version. They most likely wanted more control over the number of accounts, and also this method probably reduces large numbers of spamming accounts that are common on yahoo, or hotmail. Either way, initially it made it much more ''special'' to have a gmail account, although now most who want one can get one some way or other!

As for you question about the advantages, the 2GBstorage is def a plus for me, and also the format, like tulipcloud mentioned with the threading of messages. The interface is very user friendly and very computer-nerd friendly with lots of keyboard shortcuts etc... I hope you have fun trying it out!

What I love as a business is the search feature, it is quicker and easier than OUtlook was for me. I can just type in your name, or any word that we talked about and Voila, there is a list of emails with your name or that word in it. Quick and easy 95% of the time, but every once in a while I get emails from someone who uses one name here and another in their email, and those are VERY hard to find sometimes...

Wink

I''m interested in a gmail account - if you''ve got any of those invites left. Thanks in advance!

Gmail is also great to use as a personal file server. It is too bad I didn''t get the login name I wanted or else I would use it for my regular mail.

Puts a windows shell around your gmail account so you can save your files there for backup or if you don''t want to carry your jumpdrive around. Really handy for keeping track of presentations or some source code from random projects.
