Crest Pro-Health mouthwash AND toothpastes have been cited by MANY as causing brown stains on teeth.

DO NOT use these products, especially before your big day!!!!!!

Holy crap I just read about this.

I have a brand new box of the toothpaste that I''m tossing out.

Wow, I just purchased the Pro-Health toothpaste too. Thanks for the warning!!!!

My sister just got the Pro-Health Night, and was worried about a layer of film, like dead cheek cells that she was experiencing each morning.

After less than a week, she mentioned it to me, so I tried it one night, and experienced the same thing. I told her to do some investigating, and we were STUNNED to find these crazy reviews! Apparently Crest KNOWS that the mouthwash has been causing brown spots, and the product is STILL on the market!

I think I will be avoiding all Crest products...

I switched to the Pro Health because the Aquafresh Extreme Clean did the flaky cheek thing. I don''t know anything about the brown spots though... Yikes.

Oh no! I have been using the toothpaste and love it. It actually removed a little stain I had on a tooth. The tube is almost gone. Maybe it''s time to try something else.

I''ve never used this mouthwash myself, but for those of you who are wondering what to switch to:

Hydrogen Peroxide. Cheap, OTC, whitens teeth, kills bacteria, eliminates cold sores. Hold it in your mouth for a few minutes while in the shower. It''s about the only mouthwash I''ve used. I can''t do the burning alcohol stuff, and I the ultra-sweet taste of others.

And, I''ve never heard of anyone saying anything negative about Peroxide.

Crest explains it here: http://www.crest.com/prohealth/mouthwash-stain-and-whitening.jsp

I don''t know why they wouldn''t discontinue it though

Thank you for posting that! I was mortified after reading the reviews... I can''t believe that they have not pulled this product, and I can''t imagine using this before my wedding or some other big event and having NO idea what is going on! People have cited staining, numbness, increased sensitivity, mucuous build-up, metallic taste, loss of taste, etc. Horrifc!

Spread the word, tell your friends!

  • Teeth discoloration could actually be one indication, in some people, that the product is working:
    33.gif
    38.gif
after the rinse kills germs in your mouth, the dead germs can collect on the teeth surface and create the appearance of a brown stain. THAT sounds appealing
    20.gif

  • Teeth discoloration could be exaggerated by many other factors, such as existing tartar on teeth, consumption of colored beverages like coffee, tea and/or red wine, or tobacco use. Ummm, maybe they should take a little more responsibility
    20.gif

  • Brown teeth discoloration from use of mouthwashes that effectively fight plaque and gingivitis is not harmful.
    38.gif
    It is reversible
    38.gif
    - and largely preventable (good to know if they told you beforehand
    20.gif
    )
    - through options like brushing with a power toothbrush $100 and tartar-control/whitening toothpaste, not if you are using their toothpaste apparently
    20.gif
flossing, and visiting the dentist regularly.

This really makes me mad. I just bought a package of five at Sam''s Club and sent one along with hubby while he''s away on business. Boy will he get pi$$ed if his teeth turn brown.
    11.gif
I can''t believe that this stuff could still be on the market if there are so many people who have had issues with it...

I still can''t believe that they took no responsibility whatsoever in that entire statement.

I bought this stuff about a month ago and began using it and noticed my sense of taste was not the same, like I could barely taste things the same as before. I read someplace this might occur - never noticed the brown spots, but seriously, why is this still on the market????

Glad I pretty much went through an entire tube before this came out...
38.gif
Just chucked the last little bit yesterday and bought something else.

Thank You sooooooooo much for the info!!! At my recent visit I said I was experiencing a bit of staining on my bottom front teeth but figured that it was because I have one cup of coffee every morning. My teeth were so clean and sparkly when they were done but 3 weeks later it''s almost the same again.
23.gif
I had no idea that this could happen because of the rinse I use...NO MORE for me. I can''t stand the way it makes my mouth taste weird all day either.

I''ve been experiencing the cheek-flaking thing, but I don''t use the Pro-Health. I was using the Crest Whitening Expressions and switched to Tom''s of Maine ... guess what? No more cheek flaking! Makes you wonder about all of the stuff in these products!!!

Can you all explain this ''cheek flaking'' thing in a little more detail? Thanks!!

My sister''s was like a white slimy film or mucusy string, it seemed to be primarily around the gum line or inner cheeks. She pulled a few globs out every day, it was a bit alarming... what IS that???

This is an excellent description ... I was trying to think of how to describe it, but this sums it up perfectly (as gross as it is)!!!!
