Went to David''s Bridal and tried on three dresses, they lady didn''t spend any time with me really. I struggled to put myself into a dress on my own and my friend helped me straighten the train out and look at it. I found them to be rude and there''s wasn''t a whole lot of choice. Guess I''m not one of the lucky ones to walk into a place and find "the dress" right away. I was shocked that you should start looking for a dress 12-18 months in advance.

I haven''t been to Davids, but I haven''t heard great things about the service at the ones in my area. I''m worried about buying a dress over a year out. I think I''m going to wait for at least getting a venue before I buy anyway, but it still freaks me out to buy something that early. I have trouble making decisions as it is on a daily basis about what to wear. I feel like it will be much worse trying to make a decision about what I want to wear a year from now!!
I''m sorry you didn''t have the best experience. My first gown-shopping experience (my only wedding-related activity so far other than polishing my e-ring obsessively). I went into Nicole Miller downtown, and they were none too helpful either. My sister (MOH) had to drag the dresses out and help me try them on. I did love one of the dresses, though it may not work depending on the type of reception. I was shocked at the lack of service in an upscale boutique. It was a struggle to get her to even write down the style number for me. Now, I know I didn''t make an appointment, but there was literally not a single other person in the store, and there were 2 sales associates there. Ridiculous. I don''t expect to be coddled while I shop -- I was raised shopping in Marshalls-type stores -- but I think that trying on such an expensive and important and difficult-to-navigate piece of clothing deserves some extra help. Otherwise, might as well go to a sample sale.
Sigh.

The woman was kinda surprised that I only picked out one dress to try, but nothing really thrilled me, "oh I need to try this on.!!" type of deal

That''s shocking about an upscale place, you kinda expect it from a wedding mill dress store like David''s. It was really weird picking out brides maid dresses with my friend, they were all different shades of the same color, same fabric and same dress!

I spent most of my first outing just trying on dresses of different shapes/styles to see what would work. Pretty much everything looked ridiculous, but at least that crosses a whole bunch of styles off my list!
That is weird that all the BM dresses were the same/similar color. When I did this with my best friend the store she bought from had all different styles but in different colors. That way you could try things on for both style and color, and then figure out what combo seemed like it would work.

I''ve heard good and bad things about David''s but didn''t go myself.

Do yourself a favor and make an appointment at a real salon and let them help you into things. And do try on different shapes and sizes.

Did you call and make an appointment before you went in to David''s Bridal?

I looked at dresses there and I found the woman helping me to be great...I just didn''t like any of the dresses...

Here''s the thing with the cheap bridal stores...you can get a great dress at one of those places...I got my dress at Alfred Angelo - for $399 - and I love it...but you are just NOT going to get the level of service you''d get at a nicer bridal boutique.

I was willing to give up customer service for a super cheap gown...I literally went and picked up the dress and decided never to go back there again! I''m having it altered by my seamstress...I wouldn''t trust AA not to lose it...or have something crazy happen to it.

As for the 12-18 months...that is just plain silly!

I tried on and ordered my dress about a month and ago...got it two weeks ago...and I''m getting married September 1, of THIS year...

You''ve got plenty of time...regardless of what the bridal shop folks tell you!

I went to David''s once and they took like 30 minutes to just get someone to help me set up an appointment! In the mean time I took a walk around the store and none of their dresses were for me, so I told them to forget about it (I think they had forgotten about me long before I said that though!) haha..and I left...

Did you find a store where you can try the Demetrios dress?

M~

Sorry I didn''t explain myself I meant same bride''s maid dress but two different shade of the same color for the same dress! It must be because they mass produce them.

Demetrios dress, I almost forgot! no, not yet, I want to try on some more dresses at a real boutique by next weekend.

I had fantastic experiences in my local David''s. But I got the best saleswoman in the place assigned to me so I was lucky too.

That''s what you call "ye olde dye lot" problem! Hence the reason they tell people to order the dresses at the same time... but not all manufacturers will pay attention to that, and it can be an issue. Just because you order them at the same time does not mean some guy in the factory says "ok, this girl needs an 8, a 12, a 20 and a 4. better cut them out of the same fabric!" It''s more like "on monday we make 4''s, on Tuesday we make 8''s, etc..." The higher end lines WILL be sure they come out of the same dye lot, but still....

yeah I guess you take the good with the bad sumbride you want cheap or you want it to be matching, take your pick! lol
My FI has a real eye for color, he''d stop it right away. We''d probably have better luck if he mixed the dyes and redyed them heheh

Yeah, you may be better off with different shades... as in "everybody wear blue". I''ve seen pics and it looks great.

Of course there are lines that promise that you won''t have dye lot problems. I just don''t know that David''s is one of them. My girls are all wearing Navy dresses from Alfred Angelo. Each girl is in a different dress... so we''ll see how it works.
