About 75 miles from Los Angeles in the mountains near Big Bear Lake a Bald Eagle pair built a nest high in a pine tree.
Before the eggs were laid, qualified officials installed a camera to monitor and broadcast the family live on their website 24/7.

A couple days back the last of the 3 eggs hatched.
At night mom keeps them warm you won't see the eaglets .
But during the day and you may not have to wait too long to see the chicks, and maybe watch them being fed by mom and dad.

At night (now) it looks like they put a light over the nest, which you'd think would disturb the birds.
But the light is IR, infrared, which humans and eagles can't see.
The infrared camera can "see" it just fine ... but it just displays in black and white.
During the day they turn the IR light off, and switch the camera to daylight setting, and the color is beautiful.
This pic is a screenshot from today's video.

Enjoy link below (which for some reason now shows "One moment please ..." in blue - but still works as a link.
Then scroll down to see the two live cams.
Below is a screen capture of their webpage.

The upper camera (1) is a close up of the nest.
Right now it's snowing and very windy.
Mom has her wings spread out to protect the 3 little ones from the freezing wind.
That white stuff on her back is snow that's starting to fall for a major storm tonight.

The lower camera (2) is a wide view.
The nest is in the lit up treetop near the upper left corner.

Check these cameras tomorrow morning and there will be lots of snow.

Just found this ... birdie drama video of our eagle family.

Here's the eventful excerpt of video from last Saturday, 4 days ago.
At 01:05 the mom, Jackie, backs out of the nest ... but ... look what happens.
I won't spoil it; You'll have to watch.

Then now that Mom's out of the nest dad, Shadow, takes over incubating the chicks.
Then FF to 4:27 and watch till 7:23.

My daughter was constantly checking the webcam feed, even while we were in Africa! Those birds are amazing!

WOW!

Look how Jackie's protecting her chicks from freezing right now.
It doesn't even look like a bird, let alone a living bird, let alone a family.

Here's where their nest is in the wide view camera:

It's amazing to watch the parents while it's snowing. I'd have bailed about 20º ago!

I follow Salisbury Cathedral's live cams for peregrine falcons this time of the year.

Great fun.

An adult pair has been seen courting around the nest box and the first egg is expected soon.

I shall bring my binoculars with me when I go camping in the area over Easter, to see if I could catch a glimpse of the adults as they go out and about hunting for food for the chicks.

DK :))
