First Post - I just picked up 2 watermelon tourmaline that I want to make into a ring and a pendant. The stone i'm considering for the ring is the smaller of the two with deeper saturation coming in at 6.35 cts. I would like to have this sit parallel to my finger with a row of diamonds on each side. The larger stone comes in a 10.5 cts and Im going to make this into a pendant. I dont have many ideas for the pendant yet except it needs to be bold. I get my commission check at the end of August so I have about a month to make my decision. I know the stones look different however they are both from Cruzeiro Mine in Brazil and both stunning pieces (in my opinion). Any suggestions on styles and jewelers would be much appreciated - I live in Australia but happy to send it abroad for the right jeweller.

Many thanks
Wendy

Hi and welcome to pricescope!

You should click the report concern link in your post and ask the moderators to move this thread to the colored stone forum where it will get more traction. This forum (show me the bling) is for sharing finished pieces, more often than not, that are diamonds. The colored stone forum will have finished pieces as well as threads asking for input on colored stones. If you are looking for fellow tourmaline enthusiasts, I recommend you go there. I am not in Australia but many of our members are from there and should have helpful advice for you.

As an aside, I love watermelon tourmaline! Your text reads as if you posted a photo but I don’t see one. I hope you do share photo as I would love to see it! Good luck with your upcoming project.

You bring back good memories.

When I lived in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, I had the occasion to visit a gem dealer who treated in rough tourmalines. I had a cutter in Rio who would cut the gems for me. I was looking at a parcel that he brought out to me and some of the stones would make incredible watermelon slices and one would make a "party" colored tourmaline which when I had it polished had seventeen separate color zones in it. I had to take or pass the entire parcel, and I dithered for a while then said what the heck and took the parcel.

What a treasure trove it was! I still have a few of the pieces at home. The earrings I made for my wife and a pendant which matches my cufflinks since they all three came from the same crystal. The rest of the parcel quickly disappeared.

Sigh, I miss getting to trade in color, especially at the source. I am hoping you post pictures of your treasures, I love a good watermelon!
