We bought my stone!!! Setting ideas?

I still can''t believe that my diamond has actually been purchased!!

We bought it tonight from Whiteflash. Here are the specs:

Now the only sad part is that I assumed Blue Nile sold their settings separately, which I realize now is not the case. I''m so bummed because I''ve already fallen in LOVE with one of their settings. We''re thinking of buying it anyway with the smallest stone available (like $300) and then just having Whiteflash switch them out. I could always make a necklace out of the other stone or something... I''d buy the setting elsewhere but I''ve looked all over the place and can''t find one that I like just as well. Anyone done anything similar to this or have any advice on the matter?

I would guess that Blue Nile has several different versions of this setting for various sizes of stone. I''d be worried that if you purchased one for the smallest stone possible and then had Whiteflash trade them out they would have to completely rebuild the head to fit a bigger stone because BN would send you a setting appropriate for a smaller diameter stone.

Have you asked WF for a quote on getting that setting replicated? I can imagine that they could make anything you want. Their custom work is amazing!

Well my SO and I went ring shopping today at several stores and they were saying that because the head/prongs were soldered on to the setting and not a part of the main pieces that they could switch them out. Do you think they still may have a problem switching the diamond if they switched the head? I realize we''d lose our warranty with BN but we could get it independently insured elsewhere once the work was done, right?

Honestly!! I think that would be making a mess of everything! The easiest thing would be to get some quotes on getting that ring replicated.

Blue Nile started selling my setting separately TWO WEEKS AGO!!!!!

Apparently they are willing to sell certain settings by themselves (but not all). Here is the email reply we received today:

Thank you for contacting Blue Nile.

We recently began offering some of the settings we carry loose, or without being mounted with a Blue Nile diamond. Only certain settings are available for purchase empty and we''ll need to investigate a few things before we can confirm that we would be able to provide you with the setting you are interested in.

We are able to sell a Pavé-Set Intertwined Ring, in Platinum, by itself.

It is important that you know that a ring head (prongs) will not be included with the shank of the ring. The proper ring head to use will need to be determined by the jeweler who sets your diamond. Also, we will not size the ring to a specific size; we will only sell the settings in one of the sizes that they are cast in.

This ring is available in sizes 4, 6 and 8.

Empty settings can be returned to Blue Nile within 30 days for a refund or exchange but only in brand new condition. If any work whatsoever has been performed on the setting then the return period will be void.

If you''d like to make this purchase, please call us as the option to buy an empty setting is not available online.

We called this morning to order it and the woman on the phone said they would take it back within 30 days, no questions asked, even if there has been work done on the setting. So, there''s a bit of conflicting information there... but so far BN has been great to work with and we plan to have it insured separately anyway.

AHHH! Can''t believe my stone and setting will be arriving on Tuesday!! (Of course I''m not allowed to see them though.) Now I''m with all of you ladies who are dealing with your FF holding your ring hostage until proposal time.
