I finally got my upgrade/dream wedding set. It is going to be appraised on the 14th and I will be dropping off the info to the insurance company on the 15th. Do you think I should wait to wear it? I am so excited I love it! I would not be able to replace it though if it got stolen or lost (too expensive) but I got it from Shane Co and they cover everything (chips, stones falling out, etc) except complete loss.

What would you do?

I did wear mine before it was insured and I was a bit worried, but I really wanted to wear it, too! I don''t think that there really is a right or a wrong answer...well, maybe there is, but what is it that you feel comfortable with?

I really want to wear mine too. I think it would be fine if I left it at the house, but I would worry about it, since we do have people clean the house, they haven''t come yet. I would put it in a safe, but still.... I really want to wear it, and I don''t take it off outside of the house. On the other hand I would just die if I lost it or got mugged or something...

I wore mine for two weeks before it was insured. I was worried in case something happened but I really wanted to wear it!

This would be about a week total of wearing it uninsured. I guess I can just be really careful and spin it around if I see any creepy looking people or places...

I don''t really think I would lose it, just because I don''t take it off to wash my hands or put lotion on when I''m not at home. I make sure I clean it really well in the morning (or night) and mimize the lotion use.

I think the safest place for the ring is on your finger. In my case, we picked up the ring at the jewelers and drove directly to our State Farm agent with the ring and the paperwork.

Have you called your agent? I''m wondering if you could get a binder before the appraisal based on the purchase price you paid.

That''s what we did. The jeweler we got my setting from gave us an appraisal and we faxed it to our agent. We had called to tell them there was a new ring and they were fine with it, but we already have our home and vehicles insured, so it was only a matter of adding a personal property rider onto it. I''m not sure how it would work if you are a brand new client.

Years ago when I got my first ering I never even insured it at all, but we could easily afford to replace it. That might be a consideration as well.

This will sound really bad/risky but I have been wearing my rings for 3+ months w/o insurance. I just purchased replacement policy from Touchstone and I do feel a bit better but I am super careful/anal with the rings. I think several of the posts on insurance suggest to insure for how long you are comfortable or at least the first year while you get used to wearing a ring complex.

I have been wearing mine before it is insured too. We've done all the paperwork, we just have to prove it is real. We got to the insurance guy too late on Friday so we have to wait till tomorrow (Monday). But I just can't seem not to wear it. I am too excited to be engaged to my man to go without it :)!

P.S. I got engaged a little over a week ago so when it is all said and done I would have worn it about 10 days without insurance. Keep my fingers crossed that I can safely get through one more day :-)!!!!!!!!

I can''t remember what I did with my e-ring. I still lived at home when DH and I got engaged, maybe I had it added to my mom''s homeowners...can''t remember!

My three stone anniversary ring was purchased last May and I wore it around for at least a month before I parted with it to have it appraised and insured, lol. I did not feel the need to get it appraised right away because the jeweler who made it is a very close friend of ours and such a nice man, so I trusted that it was what he said it was. I was very careful in that month, rarely took it off my finger!

I wouldn''t wear it before it''s insured, but that''s just me and I''m pretty cautious when it comes to things like this. When my FI purchased my ring he made sure to have the insurance ready and set before he proposed, but like I said--we are super cautious!

Whatever you choose, good luck, and wear it in health and happiness!

I''ve had mine for 3.5 years (paid over $8K for it) and it''s never been insured. I know, I''m really bad but it''s something that FI and I never really thought about.
