I am purchasing a men''s wedding band, and I am trying to get a sense of the pro''s and cons of various thicknesses. A vendor I am looking at is offering 1.7mm, 2mm, or 2.3mm thick. I plan to buy a 5mm-wide platinum milgrain-edge band. I am not sure why I might want one thickness or another. Obviously, thicker means more platinum means more expensive. Seems like thicker could be less comfortable for someone not used to wearing rings, but I''m just intuiting.

Thoughts?

I would defintely go to a local store and try them on if it is for you, or if it's for your fiance the same advice. Only then will you be able to gage how comfortable it is.

my e-ring band/promise ring band is about 3mm thick in the middle and I actually find that it is comfortable but still gives it the heft that I feel it should.

Dufarge,
I just went through the same questions in looking for FI''s wedding band. I had him try on a bunch of bands, and we liked the ones that were on the thicker side. FYI, Signed Pieces says that theirs is somewhere between 1.7-1.9. Costco says theirs is 2.0. So, we went with Costco (prices were the same, and Costco has such a great return policy just in case). It took awhile for the band to get here, but it is a keeper. We really like the thickness and heft. In my opinion, Costco and Signed Pieces are the best game in town for those that want simple wedding bands!

He also tried on a band that was about 2.5mm from Memorie (sp?) and we liked it, but it was about $2200 for the plain band. FI is an engineer and there will be a lot of times when he has to take his ring off for work. So, we went with the less expensive version knowing that he might not always be able to wear it and/or lose it on a job site someday,

FYI, in case anyone is wondering (I was!), it does not say "costco", or "kirkland" on it. Just PLATINUM 950 and the letters GCJ. Anyone know which company this is? There is plenty of room for engraving. Also, no box comes with the band. Its just in tiny ziplock baggie which is placed inside a cheap, wannabe velvet bag. Then the whole thing is placed inside another ziplock baggie. The package arrive via UPS in a nice study box with some extra packing material to make the box heavier.

My two cents on wedding rings,
NS

Thanks, all, for the feedback!
