So fiance and I have made the decision to possibly have our wedding Jan. 03, 2009. I haven''t done all the research, but I am noticing that venues are $2,000 to $3,000 cheaper in the winter. I''d like to do this to have the venues we really want. But I need some input on wedding colors and flowers for the winter time.

I am going to post pictures of what we were concidering if our wedding was going to be in August. Which we are still going to concider, but i have a lot of phone calls to make before we make the decision.

Our wedding will be in Minnesota so you gotta think a real winter! No Florida weather

Wedding colors if it was a summer wedding:

ok sorry pictures will come soon I am having frusterating problems uploading them!

If it''s winter I would suggest white and silver or white and pale blue.

here is a picture of the center piece we would like in incorporate. I found it on a web page, so I apologize if I stole it from you! For these center peices in the summer we would use light pink instead of orange.

What I was thinking if we did them in the winter we could use "wintery" colors and instead of the green amyrantus use hanging crystals.

What do you think would be good colors?

a close up of what the flowers would look like. Again light pink instead of orange for summer.

my fiance LOVES green would there be a way of adding a sage type color???

Now with moon''s suggestion, would ivory flower clusters and pale blue flower clusters with the hanging tear drop crystals look wintery???

Could you add a pale pink and pale sage, or would that be too much?

I am horrible with colors

You have several different options with winter colors. You could always go with a blue palette, white, navy, pale blue, and silver. This creates a very elegant, icy look. If you really want to incorporate green, you might want to go with the more traditional christamas-y colors...burgandy, gold, hunter green, and white.

You could also incorporate greenery into the first one by stringing real greenery around your venue, and it would be lovely to incorporate candles into your reception. Congratulations!

If I ever have a winter wedding I plan on doing two shades of blue (navy and a light blue) and silver. I''d have my BM''s walk down the aisle with a fur muff instead of a bouquet :) haha it may be silly but I think it would be really cute.

I talked to my fiance, and he wants to stay away from the "christmas colors". I really like the pale blue idea with Ivory, he doesn''t like that either. He wants something that is "creative". I found some web page that has color palets on it I will try to come up with some ideas and see what you all think.

Thank you for the suggestions!

What about using dark brown and burgandy? Not quite so christmasy, but still rich and wintry.

The main thing is to echo the colors found in nature at that time of year...winter=icy or rich and deep. You can get creative, of course, but I wouldn''t fall too far into other seasons.

Other idea for you: what about going black and white and silver? A bit formal, of course, but you could make it really glitzy and pretty.

I like the brown and burgandy idea! black and white is to simple for me. I LOVE color.

I know I make this difficult, but we really want to incorporate the manzanita trees into our centerpeices. Even with a winter wedding. I think that the trees would look great with ivory, cream, and burgandy flowers, with long crystals hanging acting as iceacles! OO I love the idea.

What do you guys think????

Just one or two other ideas I thought of--brown and aquamarine are really pretty with each other. Or even black, white, and dark red. Also, if you're going with the dark brown, it might be worthwhile considering crimson rather than burgandy to bring a bit more color into the whole thing.

If you're not absolutely set on fresh flowers, I wonder if you could use fabric ones and "frost" them with a metallic spray prior to gluing them onto the manzanita branch. Not to the point where it looked cheesy, of course, but having branches that looked as if they had been crystalized in an ice storm could be so pretty.

I atually think if I were having a winter wedding in Minnesota that I would choose to incorporate warm colors as a design scheme. Maybe even using a venue that had a fireplace. I''d also use golds and ivories and if you like color, incorporating color into the scheme like brown and wine. Using warm colors may actually "warm" up the room and feel intimate. I saw this picture with the trees and thought it had a really warm feeling:

I''m having a December wedding (very small tho) and originally was going with ivory and crimison as my colours, but then changed to just ivory. That may sound plain, but my accents will be plays on light - LOTS of candlelight, firelight (from the giant fireplace) and low light from the sconces on the walls. Here''s what i''m doing for decorations...

branches spraypainted white with bits of irredecent tinsel and crystals on them, in large vases inbetween the tables (the tables are in a large U-shape where everyone can see everyone). Here''s my inspiration pic

also doing vases with one cream rose in each, filled with water to the top, and a floating candle on top. Inspiration pic ...

and luminaries around the perimeter of the room...like these but without the words

and LOTS of votives and tealights everywhere. There are a few other things but those are the main decorative pieces. Overall a very warm cozy romantic look. I''m not a huge fan of the icy wintery feel of winter themed weddings, so i went the opposite way. And candlelight makes a beautiful photograph! Sorry that was a lot of unsolicited info, HTH

Hi FLgirl!
1.gif
I thought I'd share the color scheme I planned on having if I had had my wedding during the cooler months. I ended up getting married in the summer and I used brown, light green, and deep pinks. But for, let's say a winter wedding, I was thinking of doing a chocolate brown, deep rich reds, a lighter sagey green, and splashes of ivory/cream. I even used crystal strands in my wedding, which you mentioned you were thinking of hanging from the branches. That'll be so pretty! And I know you don't want Christmas colors, but I acutally think these reds and greens aren't Christmasy at all since they're not holly red and pine green.

I just love chocolate brown combined with deep reds, I think it's so elegant looking.... and the greens and ivory are just a nice touch of contrast. And you mentioned that your FI loves green! Anyways, I pictured it with dark brown tablecloths, deep red/sage/ivory floral, crystals, and lots of candlelight!

Here's a collage I had made, but I have a horrible time at sizing stuff on here! I'm thinking it might be really small, it had me size the file down several times....

ETA: So it did end up coming out much much smaller than I had hoped. How do I post things without having to size them down super small? I try the picture posting tips, but they never seem to work for me (my file comes out tiny)...

I love all your ideas!!! I am really starting to envision this and I am seeing it all come together.

Ladypirate: Thank you for the burgandy/crimson and chocolate idea! I am thinking we will be using these colors with creams/ivorys/whites. GREAT IDEA!!! THANK YOU.

hera: We are still looking at venues. 2 of the locations we are looking at have great big fireplaces. I agree with keeping a feeling of warmth.

Happily: That is a lot of what I am thinking but I think I want to go with color as well. Again I am a color freak!

I love the idea of having luminaries around the parameter. Hopefully whatever venue we choose lets us do this. I was also thinking of having a bunch of candles and have the feeling of a romantic candle lit place.

chelle: love the collage. That is definetly the feel I am thinking. This is what my fiance and I have brain stormed over the weekend, well me and telling him

. Painting the manzanita trees chocolate and putting balls of red and burgandy flowers and balls of ivory and cream flowers in the trees like three red and two white (the tree are pretty huge). Hanging votive candles (probably will have to use battery operated candles because of the trees) and crystals from the trees. I will definetly use chocolate brown table clogthes if I can keep the cost down. I am not sure about the sage green. It would definetly make my FI happy! I''ll have to make a trial centerpeice and see what I think to add some sage green in there.

Thank you all for your suggestions. you guys are the best!

let me first say that that first venue is absolutely beautiful!
You said your FI liked green, what about a pale green, a darker green and silver?
Your centerpieces could have combination''s of lamb''s ear and holly. Lamb''s ear is pale green with furry and with the dark sheen of the holly they are really pretty, although I can''t seem to find the picture.

I don''t know If it can be done, but if you could rent orange trees, they tend to fruit in winter and smell lovely. Plus, orange trees can produce flowers and fruit at the same time.

Another question. Can my FI and the groosman wear dark brown suits in the winter???
