I guess this doesn''t really apply on this forum, but, I was wondering if anyone else has anticipated being in a relatively heavy dress for hours, with relatively binding under garments.

For those closer to their wedding dates, is there any kind of prep for stamina that you''re doing? Did you get any advice about it?

I know not all of the dresses would be like Melania Trump''s 200lb (or something ridiculous for a dress) dress, but...I read that she was advised she HAD to eat something to be able to keep standing in it.

Sorry if this is a weird post.

My wedding isn''t until October of next year, but I''ve already been thinking about those issues. I plan to start exercising daily once the weather warms up (walking between here and my children''s schools will give me over three miles a day of exercise!), eliminating processed sugars (not because of weight but because of the sugar crashes), drink more water, and a few weeks before the wedding I''ll start wearing the horrible confining garments (similar to what I''ll wear on the wedding day) so that I''ll be used to the confinement of them. I also plan to start breaking in my shoes two months prior to the day so that they''re also familiar to me for hours on end. I also plan to have a non-gassy meal before the wedding, so that I''m comfortable and don''t feel dizzy during the hour long service. We''re getting married in a Greek Orthodox service, and from what I understand we''ll be on our feet the entire time.

Great topic, hun! Not weird at all.

For our July wedding (8 months from today!!!!

) and outdoor ceremony, I seriously plan on wearing pants throughout the beginning of the summer. It sounds so ridiculous, but I'm worried about the heat bothering me, so I plan on trying to get myself used to wearing heavier garments in the heat. I'm going to break in my shoes during the bachelorette party and bridal shower as well. I work out 4-5 days/week, so I know my stamina won't be a problem. But like Melissa said, I plan on cutting out all refined sugars/carbs/flours/etc and eating a very protein and vitamin rich diet about a month before the wedding. The day of, I'm going to make sure to eat a very lean and nutritious breakfast in addition to drinking tons of water.

Wow...that''s really good advice! I was wondering about the shoes. That sounds like a good plan, to break them in for a while before hand! And the under garments...it never occurred to me that those could be "broken in" as well!!

I am definitely going to be on a protein rich diet for maybe two months before my wedding...years and years away.

Currently I''m on a 3-4-5 day work out schedule and consider myself fit focused, so that will be my schedule leading up to my wedding...years and years away, as well.

Thanks, ladies.

It''s not a weird question at all. I have thought a little about it, and I think the most important thing is simply to understand that on your wedding day, you WILL need breaks! It is ok to tell the photographer, "I need two minutes" to get a cup of ice water, a cookie, and sit down.

I am planning on being really hydrated in the weeks beforehand (although I already am,) getting tons of rest, doing deep breathing/meditation....and hope that I wake up on June 26 with loads of energy. I plan on having some tea that morning for some caffeine (don''t want to get a headache) and maybe Diet Coke later in the day, but I''m skipping on the coffee since it will upset my already-nervous stomach!! I will eat a good breakfast, break in my shoes beforehand, find an air-conditioned room when needed, and understand that it''s all part of the experience - I''ve been waiting for this day for SO long, I''ve got to give it every ounce of energy that I can muster!!!

And, I think your excitement probably masks a lot of exhaustion - your adrenaline will be going ninety miles an hour and that will carry you through much of the day.

You will have so much adrenaline pumping through you, you won''t even think about being tired until the end of the night when you finally sit down. Then you can crash.

Ditto, in my experience...

I don''t normally float about this part of the forum, but with a title like "wedding day stamina" I just had to peek in here and see ''exactly'' what you ladies were discussing

Ditto, my dress was insanely heavy to carry, a little lighter when wearing it and the only time it bugged me was towards the end of taking photos outside and carrying it around trying to not get mud on it.

I was wearing the darn thing from 11am-5am and it didn''t bother me one bit :) I had so much adrenaline going through me and so many other emotions that wearing a heavy dress was the furthest thing from my mind! The most annoying thing was the bustle kept coming un done, I think at one point we just safety pinned it up and said the heck with it lol

Good to know!! Gives me hope that I won''t want to rip it off because of how frustrated I might be with it.

Oh same date Laughwithme! High five!

This is a great question!!! I was more concerned about just not being flat out exhausted from lack of sleep. I wake up every morning like clockwork at 5:00 a.m. to go to the gym, and I''m in bed every night by 9:00 p.m. because of this schedule. On weekends when we go out with friends being up past 9:00 is excrutiating and then I still automatically get up the next morning at 5:00...arg. My reception doesn''t even start until 8:00pm so I think I''m in for a doozy! I''m hoping I''ll just be so pumped up and excited that I make it through everything with no problems.

Just a Note - if you plan to break in your shoes you may not end up with the greatest shoe-pics - breaking them in will naturally leave marks from your feet in the insoles and scratch up the outsoles unless you''re super careful. So if you want to break in and still get good shoe pictures be sure to have clean feet and wear hose. I''ve read that some people put socks on over the shoes and wear them in the house to break in without marking the soles.

Even with just a few longer try-ons (with bare feet) with my dress my shoes had very clear foot marks

I was able to clean them with fantastic but to me, it still shows in the pictures. Good thing shoe pics weren''t super high on my list of must-haves.

As for stamina I do agree that you''ll be full of adrenaline and most likely you won''t even feel tired. I definitely felt tired of being so constricted in my dress and I am SO GLAD I had a second, very simple dress from jcrew (they make almost all their bridesmaid dresses in white/ivory) to change into for dancing. Don''t get me wrong, once bustled I could slow dance and move around perfectly, but I was not going to be gettin'' down to boogie in my gown, I could hardly bend at the waist from all the boning!
I changed after we ate dinner about halfway though the reception. Changing dresses is a totaly personal thing though, so go with your gut as to wether you want to change or if you want to stay in that gown all night! I know that I would not have had as much fun dancing with my new husband and friends if I was still in the big gown. But that''s not to say YOU won''t and definitely if your dress isn''t super constricting or heavy you might not even consider changing.

My final 2 cents here is if you have an appetite - eat a big breakfast! I was actually hungry after not eating a lot for the prior week and having that eggs toast and bacon really held me through. I don''t think the wedding day is a time to think about calories or carbs or sugar - have whatever you love - it''s your last breakfast as a single lady!!

Op I need to chime in again! If it puts you at ease, I usually am up at 6am and in bed by 10pm. Keeping that in mind, I still did pretty well and this may be tmi but I even had enough energy at the end of the night for a happy ending if you know what I mean! lol

Having a second dress to change into was an absolute life-saver for me.

Not only was I having dress issues--the top got stretched out and one of my bridesmaids had to sew me into it to avoid a wardrobe malfunction at the reception--I also started having pain in my back and ribs from the way the dress was changing my posture. My gown wasn''t heavy at all, but halfway through the reception, I thought there was no way I was going to make it through the dancing. Before our first dance, I popped about four Advil and changed into my rehearsal dinner dress. Instant relief! Our dance was a fast-paced rumba/swing, and the shorter dress made it much more fun and worry-free for me.

when I was buying a dress, they lady at the shop explained that the weight of the dress should always sit on your hips and never be pulling down on your bust. you will feel so beautiful in your dress that you won''t notice it being heavy and they should tailor it so that it sits comfortable. I ended up not wearing my hose and going barefoot into my shoes because they were too big. I was surprised I held out wearing the shoes as long as I did and that I didn''t get cold the whole night with my strapless dress. I ALWAYS get cold. so must have been the lovely adrenaline. plus I did get a good sleep and we had a lovely lunch before getting ready for the ceremony so I was well fed.

My dress was very heavy and very warm (it had sleeves and a high neckline due to religious reasons) and I thought there was NO WAY I would make it all the way through the wedding, dancing, and the entire day in it - I could barely handle the fittings, it was so hot! My husband was convinced I would actually pass out at some point from the heat and weight of it and he was worried. But on our wedding day I didn''t notice a thing - even through several hours of dancing and wearing the dress from 11am until after midnight, it never bothered me once. I was sad at the end of the night to take it off!

The next day I was pretty exhausted and my muscles were very sore... but that''s probably more from the dancing than the dress

That sounds like the result of a good work out.

I''m glad you didn''t pass out.

I can''t wait to start trying on dresses...in 2011. You all are giving me hope that I won''t be uncomfortable (if I find one that''s comfortable for me).

This.

Also, you only have to wear your shoes for the ceremony and part of the reception. I put mine on right before the ceremony and took them off right after I got to the reception. And what''s the point of breaking in your spanx? The point of them is to hold everything in. Breaking them in would mean stretching them out and that would defeat their purpose.
