Hello everybody...very newly engaged..and i have been browsing some wedding dresses and I wanted to ask for some expert advice. I''m between a size 10-12 regular clothes. What size dress can i expect to be trying on?? I know that wedding dresses fit small but i have had friends that are size 4 and buy a size 8 dress? Will i be needing to find a wedding dress that is double my regular size???

Thanks! Any input would be greatly appreciate!

Your wedding dress will likely be 1-2 sizes larger than your street clothes.

Ditto what Kimberly said, but also keep in mind that it will depend on the designer. They all have their own size charts, and you''ll want to order size based on your biggest measurement. It''s easy to take a dress in for the areas where it''s too big, but sometimes completely impossible to let it out if it''s too small. Don''t let the designer''s strange ideas of how a woman''s body should be proportioned get you down - some of the sizing is flat out insane.

It definitely depends on the designer.
I am a street size 12, and my Maggie Sottero is actually a size 10.

That''s also what I found.

Mine was the same size as my regular clothes. This sounds weird, but the dress shop told me I have "perfect measurements" because my bust is 10" larger than my natural waist and that''s how the dress makers size their dresses.

Since my dress is A-line, my hip measurement didn''t really matter. If I were wearing a mermaid or fitted/sheath dress, I would definitely have to go up a size or 2. So it not only matters on what your measurements are, but also the style of your dress.

Good luck - hope that helps!

I think it could vary, depending on the designer. I was not able to find any information about the designer of my dress other than the name, so I don''t know how their sizes usually run. My dress, however, is actually 4 sizes (yep, 4) bigger than my regular size. Yeah, it was a little depressing to find that out but what can you do? If there''s someone at the shop who will be helping you, all you need to do is tell her what size you wear and she should be able to point you in the right direction. When I tried on dresses, I looked at (and tried on) so many sizes -- ones that were too small and ones that were too big -- just to get an idea of what was out there.

Mine is three sizes bigger than normal, partly because of my stupid chest. You need to buy the dress for your largest measurement and then have it altered (usually).

Thank you soo much for the info! This definitely gives me a better idea but with my hips,

i''ll probably have to find a dress 4 sizes bigger! I wish it was my bust! hahaha

My dress ordering experience was not typical. I am a street size 10-12, and was expecting to order at least that in a wedding dress. The sample I tried on was an 8, and it fit perfectly. It could not have been custom made to fit me that well. I was only the 2nd person to try on that sample, so we knew it hadn''t stretched. According to the size chart I should have ordered a 12, the shop owner even called the manufacturer to be sure the size charts were current (appearantly they can change every year or so also). Anyway, I ended up ordering an 8 and I was a little nervous but it fit perfectly.
Sizing can vary significantly from designer to designer and also dress style depending on your body type.
Luckily, many samples are in the 8 to 12 size range so you should get a good idea of how a particular style/designer will fit your body.
Good luck and have fun dress shopping!

I found dres sizes really varied for me. I fit in dresses ranging from ize 8 to size 12.

mine was 4 sizes up from my street size. it was the smallest size they made, but then they altered down the dress.
i'm sure each designer is different.

I''m a 6-8 in street clothes but my justina McCaffrey dress was a 12

my stupid butt/hips ruined me and I had to take the dress in a ton at the bust and waist. It is a little tramatic but it is all worth it in the end when you find a dress that you love!
