I was just reading a thread on wedding colors. (specifically how to deal with a friend getting married around the same time and how to avoid picking the same colors) Everyone agreed that no one will remember the colors later anyway.

That left me thinking. And laughing.

My aunt got married about 10 years ago. The wedding was beautiful. She was so happy. She picked an emerald green & cream color scheme. Very pretty. And I still remember the color. Our entire family does.
Why?
Because she had this great cake with emerald green flowers. After the cake was served we all spent the day walking around with green tongues.

omigosh thats a great story! our cake has green frosting, i wonder if that will happen to us lol

I never risk it anymore. After that, I am very careful to avoid eating the flowers (or any other brightly colored frosting).

Maybe it had to do with the coloring they used in the frosting? Or maybe the amount that had to be used to get it that deep of a shade?

Probably the amount of colouring had something to do with it. I remember Freke saying something about hoooooow much colouring you need, and how you're really at a risk of doing something like that with deeply dyed fondant/buttercream. I think she said it's easier to colour chocolate or something? I'll try to find the thread.

ETA: Yup, here it is. Freke chimes in about too much dye affecting the flavour, and I think swimmer chimes in further down the page about the colour staining things: Icing colour discussion

It makes me feel less like a doofus since one year I made a really blue cake for my brother's birthday, and it turned our mouths BRIGHT freaking blue. Oops. I thought it was a novice baker mistake, but apparently even the pros can do it.

Love it! I''ve always wanted to have a emerald green themed wedding, it''s been my favourite colour since I was 4! I remember when my sister got married and we were looking through books about weddings, and there being a superstition that green bridesmaids dresses were bad luck...and I thought...pah, I''m having green!!

And now I DEFINITELY want to have guests at my future wedding to be wandering around with green tongues, that would make me very very happy. :-D

as for the "superstition" of green bridesmaid dresses. it just is not for dresses. it is anything of green ( meaning cars, motorycycles, and weddings). i have even heard of some people refusing to do a baby nursey in green for fear of bad luck..

The aunt wound up divorced a few years later.

Beautiful wedding though. I loved the colors. Made great BM dresses.

Really???? I've never heard of this before and I grew up in a very superstitious family!

Green is and always has been my favorite color. My baby blanket is green, in fact it is called "Green Blankey" and it was a gift from a family friend on my day of birth. She got it from Marshall Fields, which had an entire line of green baby gear for couples who didn't know the baby's gender before birth.

Oh, well, green has always worked for me!

That's hilarious about green the icing, I can only imagine!

ETA: I even grew up in an avocado green house! We call it Li'l Green, even though my mom has since had it painted white. It was built in the 70s, what can I say? The people who sold it to my parents said "This house has brought all of its previous owners good luck" when they handed over the keys.

our entire wedding is green so im just gonna forget i ever read this thread haha

out wedding had navy blue as a color, and for my shower, we had a cake with bright navy blue frosting accents. I also happened to accidentally have on a blue sweater. I looked like the girl from willy wonka by the end of the day. blue teeth, tongue and lips.

OH SO TASTY THOUGH!

saying a "green house" made me think of another thing. my father died of a stoke 6 weeks after moving into a green house.. no need for the "i''m sorry" response, it has been 15 years since he has passed on.. wow 15 years goes by fast when i think of it. It doesn''t seem like it.

I remember the colors and feel of every wedding I have ever been to. I''m weird like that though. However I will say that I''ve been to weddings with the same color scheme that looked totally different. Doesn''t matter.
