Just curious..

How does everyone feel about going to a Wedding Show together prior to being engaged?

There is a big one here this weekend.. The Canadian National Bridal Show.. and we''re going to be in the convention centre where it''s being held for another Fair that I want to attend..

He found out and asked if I want to stop in there too...
My first instinct said no.. why not wait till we''re engaged?
He seemed a little disappointed, but I think it''s better to wait and enjoy it when we are officially engaged.

But, I thought I''d bring it up here and see what everyone thought, whether anyone has...

I know some people do not like the idea of going to a Wedding Show with the man in their life, and feel its more of a bridal party, girl bonding thing... But since we look at wedding magazines, and guides and stuff together, he is definitely one of the first that I want to go with..

Just maybe not yet

Although, I''m glad he''s interested at least?

awww I say go!! Its not like YOU suggested it!! If he did, Id def go, its seems like itd be fun, and especially if he is excited for it!! :)

Since you''re going to be at the convention center anyways, why not just take a small look? Your guy is the one who suggested it, so he doesn''t have a problem with it and won''t feel any pressure from you. But I do understand your feelings about going before actually being engaged. I try not to plan too much, or buy magazines, or bring up the actual wedding too much with the SO because I don''t want to jinx it. I would rather worry about getting the ring first then worry about planning a wedding. But if he wants to go, why not have a little fun?

go for it! it''ll probably be fun! good way to get ideas!!

I would totally go! Those things sound like a ton of fun and think about all those single people who are just accompanying their bride girlfriends. They''re probably still peeking around at stuff. It''s not ruining the surprise or anything. Just something for fun that you will eventually be using anyway :)

Hell yeah! I say go for it. The man suggested it, you don''t want to disappoint him

I might get him moving on the whole proposal and wedding thing too. And they quite often have rings to look at too, a perfect time to point out what he does and doesn''t like.

I would flip in my fiance asked to go to a bridal fair, he looked devastated when I told him he had to go recently and I think he secretly bribed my sister in coming along instead of him. He openly thanked her with open arms!

I''m usually opposed to all things "wedding" before being engaged, but even I have to say GO! It''s not like you''d be making any decisions or any purchases. It''ll just get your minds thinking, and you might be able to gather some info on vendors. It would be fun, and it''s not like you''re going out of your way to attend. I say GO!!! And let us know what you learn!

Hi Princess Natalie!

I have no problem going to bridal shows! I went to the Toronto Star National show earlier this month & had a good time. FFI had to work so he couldn''t go but he was all up in the material I brought back! I think I''ll pass thru tomorrow''s show too! Only it will be later in the day.

Hope u have fun there!

I went to one last month. I say go! The shows in Seattle only come around once a year (well twice, but the one I went to was small and dinky). It''s really good to get an idea of stuff, and you can get on lists that vendors send discounts.

Thanks for the ideas, ladies..

Part of me is curious if it will be as useful when we go next year when we are actually engaged if we have already gone

I went to the Toronto Star National one too.. with my sister though, she IS engaged, but I couldn't help but look for myself.. Of which, this caused a HUGE fiasco between her and I because she said I was being selfish, but that is a different story! Needless to say I'm not 'allowed' to go with her anymore.. But I loved it and brought home all the fun stuff that my sister 'let' me pick up for myself and my boyfriend and I went through them for fun

I don't know.. We will see.. my gut is still saying no

But if you go next year, how far will you be into planning already? How much new knowledge could you really gain, yanno? LOL I''m trying to peer pressure you, is it working?

Just kidding of course, but I think it would be more helpful before so you know what''s up before you start down one planning path and have to change it? ::shrugs...::

Princess Natalie, do you and your S/O have a date or timeline? If you do then I think it''s okay to go... At least you can start looking into different vendors and start comparing. I personally think it couldn''t hurt.

Why not go, just for spits and giggles?

Hey ladies..

So... We didn''t go..

A part of me regrets it... as every point that was brought up here is SO valid, and yes a bit of peer pressure SunnyD

But in answer to your question Sparkly Libra - We do have a timeline.. Engaged next year (probably in the summer) and married either the following summer (if I just do one year of teacher''s college) or the summer after (2011) if I do a 2 year program.

:)
