Week 6 - Share Photos: Favorite Cake Photo

I can understand that. People fear anything that''s not the norm. But FWIW, those people don''t know what they''re talking about.

mimsy- i love your cake picture. it cracked me up!

Here is my cake. It was patterened to look like my dress and had alternating layers of chocolate with vanilla frosting, yellow with rasberry filling, and vanilla cake with chocolate frosting. All the cakes were soaked in Rum, per the bakery''s special recipe. Yummyness!

I love our cake so much. We had an epic cake cutting fail though, because the ribbon was totally in the way. LOL.

ETA: Oh poo, you can't even see the detail! Oh well...

Cutting our cake!

Our cake was the only thing that was messed up at our wedding. It didn''t look like the picture and the catering manager put it out too early so the navy colored fondant ribbon melted and looked a hot mess by the time we got there....the catering manager tried to fix it by putting flowers on it---which is nice of her, but she is also the one who forgot to wrap the cake when she put it in the freezer so we never got the top part of the cake.

When my DH and I were dating he would always talk about this carrot cake that his aunt sandy made for him... i asked her if she would do it for the wedding and she agreed... i let her do what she wanted and this is what she gave us :-) the cake was amazing.. in front is a sign that said "Made with love by Aunt Sandy"

I''m not posting my cake. I''m posting my amazing Cheesecake Tree that was our dessert, since I can only post one.

dcgator - that''s how I wanted MY cake to be. white on the outside and dark chocolate inside. there was chocolate inside but it was dry and they put marsipan in it... ew.

My cake, I loved the simplicity of it and the Precious Moment topper was picked out by DH, we are Disney nuts.

We had the ugliest cakes EVER!

I actually love this picture because it combines some of the funniest parts of our wedding. Here you will see:

- Exhibit A: The groom''s cake. I''ve told this story before, but here it is again: I told DH that he gets a red velvet groom''s cake on our wedding day, and asked him what he wanted it to look like. I thought he''d want a football helmet or something. After some thought, he chose a cake that depicted a full human body, one side showing the skeletal system, the other side showing the musculature. When I originally said "NO!" to this idea because it was too gross, he thought for some time and said "I got it! What about a foot! You know, because feet are my specialty." Um, no. (He''s a muscle specialist, by the way, hence the gross body cake.)
So, we ended up with a nasty body cake which was, of course, blood red on the inside because it was red velvet. The funny thing is, it went so quickly that I didn''t even get a bite.

- Exhibit B: Our wedding cake. I made the mistake of giving DH the job of picking out the cake design and flavor while I was out of the country chaperoning a student trip shortly before our wedding. My sister went with him, and they chose a really fabulous bakery that is renowned for it''s delicious wedding cakes. However, being fabulous, this bakery is very inflexible and they only do cakes two ways. I don''t know what the other version of their wedding cake looks like, but the one DH chose had spikes of hard white chocolate jutting out from each layer, and bizarre folded fondant, as well. Hideous.
Several weeks after our wedding I came home to find DH eating the top layer out of the box it came in. When I told him we were supposed to save it to eat it together he said "I didn''t know that! ( . . . pause . . . ) Well, can I just finish it now since I already started?" He did.

- Exhibit C: Our cake-cutting set. Please note the length of that knife blade. Noted? You should feel good knowing that my aunt was allowed to CARRY IT ON THE PLANE WITH HER from Florida to Chicago. You''ll also feel good to learn that said aunt looks like an insane person, and I''m surprised that they even allowed her on the plane WITHOUT a knife. Did I mention that she speaks through her teeth? As in, she doesn''t open her mouth when she talks? Yeah.

Hahaha. I LOVE cake wrecks! DH even ordered a fake cake wreck for me for my 29th birthday. He said he had the most difficult time convincing them to write what he wanted on the cake. The lady on the phone kept saying "Are you sure you want it to be written out?"

Elle--Yeah, it''s either laugh or cry. Laughing is so much more fun.

Everyone might be amused to learn that last night I actually BROKE the handle clear off of the famous cake knife that my aunt was allowed to bring on the flight with her from Florida to Chicago. I sunk it into DH''s 40th birthday cake (a Portillo''s chocolate cake

) and the handle cracked right off. I felt it was an appropriate demise for the knife.

Haven, i just read your post outloud to DH and he wanted to see the hideous cakes...He wanted to know what was wrong with the wedding cake...boys!

I agree that your cake isn''t a wreck, but I understand when it''s not what you envisioned.

Thanks for posting...I love it

Blackpolkadot: your cake is too cute, I love it!

Thanks, purselover!

lovely cakes Cynd33 and blackpolkadot - they''re so different but both fabulous :)

Aside from the obvious, marrying the man of my dreams etc. etc.... the cake was the highlight of my day! The venue gave me a hard time about it because they said it was beyond their skill level and I had to pay alot extra for it. And they basically said it was wierd and not a wedding cake. So, my expectations were low. I love the artist Wayne Theibaud, it is modeled after his paintings of cakes.

BUT, it looked exactly like the photo I gave them, to the smallest detail. The top two tiers were really styrofoam inside, so I had them put into a shadow bow.
