Weird, is there a reason this date isn''t popular?

Hi there,

This weekend we are going to officially set a date and sign the contract for the reception hall and photographer. I had originally wanted September 8, 2007, but our venue of choice, photog, dj were all booked for that date. In fact, most vendors have been booked for that date! So, when we asked about dates that were open around that time frame, it was almost unanimous that August 25th was available. Now, I really don''t have anything against that date, but why is it so unpopular? Even the week before that was already taken by a lot of places. So now I''m nervous about it!
Is there anyone out there who might know something I don''t about that date?
Thanks!

I know that in the Catholic religion, on 9/8 the birth of the vergin Mary is celebrated. Perhaps that could have an impact on that date being popular.
As far as 8/25, not sure, other than it's end of summer vacation for a lot of folks and maybe people don't plan for weddings at that time since a lot of people are enjoying the last bit of summer vacation...

I thought of the same two things, plus even though they''re not that far apart, August could be hotter and more humid than September (or at least perceived so), depending on where you live. A couple we know chose that day because of the first reason Clarygrace mentioned.

hi there,
odd, maybe it depends on your region?
we found quite the opposite where we are, planning for a fall 2007 wedding
we had our choice of september dates, but none in october and even all of august was booked.

only thing i can think of is that it is last weekend of summer vacation for a lot of people.

I agree that it may just have something to do with the end of summer... anyone working in the education field is gearing up for a new school year, college kids are returning to campus, and families are squeezing in all their last-minute vacations. So maybe if people were interested in that time of year, and choosing between the weekend before labor day weekend and the weekend after... they just went with the one after.

Or maybe it''s just a sign that you''ve chosen the right date!

I dont think there is a real reason, just preference. I got married on August 5th, because August 12th was booked at my hall. I didnt go with first choice of photographers, because he was booked on the fifth. I think it just depends.... But other than teachers being back at school--there is nothing going on. And even they could go to a weekend wedding!

Enjoy planning!

August 25 07 is my wedding date! yay! To be honest I didnt really want that date,i wanted the 8th of September but September was already booked. I cant speak for others but I know that this date was sooooo close to September that I just wanted to wait. Mentally I feel like September is a cooler month and you can do a fall wedding. But that was the only reason i was hesitant. we ended up having to go with 8/25 because the next available date was in Nov! =) In the end though, the 25 will be special becuase it will forever be you wedding date!

August is a popular vacation month and it is just super warm...we found when we were looking for places to have our reception that many vendors dropped prices and minimums in the summer months for these reasons...

Depends where you are getting married, weather wise, but there is no holiday or anything odd on that weekend...

I guess it depends where you''re from, because in L.A., I know it is MORE expensive to have your wedding in the summer. For example, our wedding is in November, and we''re being given the large ballroom for cheap because there are less weddings around then. So I think August would be very popular? Huh. Interesting. Good luck!

i think 9-8-07 is just a hot date, because of the whole counting thing, so people forgot about the 25th. Good for you though!!!

Also isn''t that labor day weekend?

I do think that''s Labor day weekend! It also has to do with kids going back into school etc....I would imagine.

We''re getting married August 4, 2007 and wanted our date to be earlier in the month to avoid the "going back to school" stuff.

Hm... Isn''t Labor Day the first Monday of September? I could be wrong, though...

Yes, 9/1/07 is Labor Day weekend and we are getting married that day. For us, it was a matter of convenience, as we are having a destination wedding but need to be back right after LD because of work/school schedules.

Hi Sadie.

I think that August 25 may not be as popular because it is the weekend before Labor Day weekend. Many people have vacation plans or family plans for Labor Day, so I would think that perhaps people thinking about getting married around that time may try to avoid the weekend prior to Labor Day -- in case there are guests who are already committed to vacations or family plans that will be unable to attend a wedding on August 25 (such as because they have arranged vacation time from work around Labor Day, and might not be able to attend an event the weekend before). That''s the only thing I can think of though. Also, some couples may have chosen Labor Day as to give their guests and extra day for travel -- and thus the Labor Day weekend was more popular than the weekend before, so the weekend before is more open.
