So, my husband had the baby this morning & I went out for brunch with girlfriends and then had to go downtown to pick up my RHR that was being sized at my jewelers.
Well being a PS addict, I am constantly checking out diamonds, settings, etc. and had to try on a gorgeous 1.5 carat H, VS2 princess cut in a Vatche X prong-replica setting. Just gorgeous.
Then I tried on a few other baubles while they cleaned my ring, and thought, perhaps I''d go to Tiffany''s (two blocks away) and check out the sterling collection (all I can afford there) and then try on the Lucida just for shites and giggles.
Well, I tried on a 2.36 carat Lucida in the Xprong style setting, and it was quite gorgeous. I noticed the stone is cut quite different than a princess cut, and it seemed deeper than a lot of princess/radiant stones I''ve seen out there. The specs were H, VVS1, and I asked her for mm''s and depth, etc...but she didn''t know it off the top of her head. I told her not to worry, I was just in the mood to try on sparklies (they were not busy at all, so she was happy to let me play..how nice is that?)
Price Tag? $44,000 and some change!
Then I tried on a 2 carat round brilliant in the traditional Tiffany knife edge setting in 18k yellow gold, with the matching band. I forgot how much I love yellow gold! Wow...it was pretty... Same color/clarity and it was $38,000. OMG.......
I would never tell someone not to buy at Tiffany''s and I''m not bashing, because I have a few sterling pieces from there that I love, but man....out of my price range big time! But that''s all relative anyway. All that matters is that you get a ring you love, and what folks spend is entirely personal anyway. But for me? We''d have to win the lottery or something.
But I had fun trying on the larger stones at my jeweler''s (in the 10k range) and at Tiffany''s....its nice to daydream isnt'' it?
