WF photos and videos comparing two ACAs (E and G) and a near super ideal (D), for information and fun

All, some may recall my journey to find a colorless large MRB... in the end WF found me a 3.3 carat D, not ACA but vetted by them.

To help me in my process they compared "my" stone to a 2.548 E ACA and a 3.03 G ACA.

These images solidified my desire for a D color and my preference for a larger stone, it also helped me realize that nearly super ideal was more than good enough for me. I actually don't see the difference. I am certain you more discerning folks can. I also realized that inclusions under the table drive me way more bananas than the not quite super ideal cut.

They did let me know that "my" stone could also be recut and would only lose 1-2mm to get their super ideal status, that it wasn't really that far off. That was helpful to hear as well.

I thought you all might enjoy these and they might be informative for someone else on a similar path (I scratched out the WF name bc I thought I had to but I'm sorry if I shouldn't have... they deserve full credit for the images and their effort). Thanks again for everyone's input and sage advice.

I can definitely see why you made the choice that you did! Your diamond is stunning!

This proves to me that my color perception is garbage haha. I literally cannot tell the difference between D/E (even face down), and can't tell the difference between any of the 3 in color when face up, lol.

This is super helpful! Thank you so much for posting. I have never seen a ACA in person, let alone compared to a non-ACA. This is super helpful. Are you going to get the D? It's stunnnig!

Pretty stone! I'm glad you figured out what you wanted and were able to find it! You were able to make an
informed decision and that accounts for a lot! All the pics/videos are really helpful!

So, tell us how you plan on setting it?

I can't tell a color difference between the D and E; the G is definitely much warmer. That is one beautiful D! I can't tell a difference in the ACA vs the D in terms of "sparkle"-factor at all!

Please do post your final product :)

@FornasettiLover When you said “it also helped me realize that nearly super ideal was more than good enough for me. I actually don't see the difference.”
Did you end up have a chance to see the G or E ACA in real life?
I believe your 3.3ct D 3ex is a beautiful stone!!! But to say “I actually don’t see the difference” if you never see both in real life could be a misleading information. I believe some of GIA 3ex is also beautifully cut, but to give that statement I think one have to compare it in real life first for it to be a fair judgement.

Well, I have attempted to keep this post as informative and as neutral as possible. I have also attempted to express how grateful I am to all in this process, certainly I appreciate the guidance and education from WF. For people who are not in a position to buy multiple large diamonds to see side by side, or who do not live close to these vendors, I had hoped this would serve as a rough proxy. I expressed all of my opinions in the first person and stated this is my opinion. I am certainly not attempting to mislead anyone, I do not have a vested interest in any of these enterprises. I have read, and suppose it may be true, that this forum is only for individuals who purchase exclusively from the super ideal vendors. Does anyone know how to have this thread deleted?

Glad its big white and pretty. But those videos are honestly not very useful. I've definitely looked at lots of those and then seen them IRL and I can tell the difference. Can you post the ASET image of your D please? WF said they do that analysis as well. I know cause I considered asking WF to do a similar search for me as well before I bought my ACA. I am honestly curious to see the ASET. I'm not trying to be a downer, but the ASET will tell more than the videos.

Asset is in the earlier thread, I'll copy here. I'm not sure how long it will stay up as I've asked for this to be deleted. I do appreciate all the constructive feedback and have enjoyed learning. I do not take any of the criticism of the diamond personally, we all have checks and balances; I would never chose a low color or clarity. Thankfully that means there are diamonds for us all. I do think this community forum is not welcoming to all, and I will be respectfully departing. I wish you all the best of luck and have enjoyed peeking in the window for this brief time.

I just posted my reply and read yours. Your thread is very interesting and informative. The process is not one usually used but it can be very helpful. It may even help you decide if you want to go further and cut it to reach super ideal, or you may be happy to keep it as it is. No one thinks you're trying to mislead anyone. I can't imagine why you would think this. Don't be offended or take any comments the wrong way. People are very excited and happy for you. People also want you to buy as a fully informed consumer. This information is great.

Thank you for your gracious comment. Someone did specifically say I was being misleading. It's OK. I have a huge life outside of this and am really old, so I really don't take it personally, I just don't have time in my life for anything that doesn't make me happy. I am extremely grateful for everyone's help and absolutely love looking at everyone's treasures. Best of luck to all.

Thanks, I didn't remember it was referenced earlier.

Stunning choice! Face up they all look the same color to me but face down I can see the yellow in the G. Congratulations!
You made the right choice! Please don’t leave!

Oh, I see the comment. That person is not saying you're being misleading. That person is saying the videos and photos could be without seeing them in person. It's not you. I have been looking at stones for years (now) and I am "mislead' by videos and pictures all the time. ALL THE TIME. We're just making a general statement about types of videos and pics. I would love to see your finished ring. Truly, the comment is not personal. And since you're been around, you know we don't need to take anything personally. It's about the rock. We know you have no misintentions.

Personally, I really appreciate this thread. It is hard to find GIA “near super ideal” stones compared to branded super ideals. Usually any comparison pics and videos are branded super ideals vs. poorly cut GIA ExExEx diamonds. Congrats on your beautiful new diamond! I think you made a great choice,

Really appreciated the E-D-G comparison. All the diamonds look great. I cannot tell the difference between both the ACAs and the vetted selection, although I can see a little difference between each ACA and the vetted one compared one at a time. I don’t know where to look at an ACA in real life. Maybe some day I will recognize a PS’er by their rings.

I can't tell the difference between D and E and would never pay for a higher color if I cannot see it (I have an x-ray vision and see everything, lol). These pic are also so blown-up that in real life, the stones will be tiny and no one can tell the difference, unless you are looking for a mind-clean stone.

I’m sorry if my my words of choice is not great and sound harsh. My intention is not going that way. I’m extremely sorry if I offended you!!!
What I meant is:
1. Have you got a chance to see any of those two other stone in real life on a separate timing with the 3.3ct D. Not together side by side, but only got a chance to see any one of those 2? Like LLJsmom got to see 2 other ACAs and 2 other CBIs before she got her ACA. And myself, I got to see 2 other ACAs before I decided to get CIH. All in different time because I understand its a big purchase and getting to see these stone at the same time is not common.

2. When you said “I actually can’t see any difference” can be interpreted by future reader that Super ideals don’t differ than GIA 3ex, thats why I said misleading (Sorry for my wording if it offended you) because its only based on pictures and video isn’t really precise. If future reader isn’t following your journey they don’t know that you haven’t compare them in real life and think that you think it looks the same, which can’t be judge by only picture and video. And I don’t know if your statement is a fair statement. That’s why I want to point out that your statement is made only from seeing pictures and videos. I’m sorry that I can’t say it in nicer way, because my vocabulary list isn’t that great. And I’m such a busybody I should just not comment on anything that can offend others... :’(

Once again, I’m sorry if my choice of wording is really bad. If my explanation still offended you anyway, I’m sorry, just treat me as non-existence and don’t let me ruin your fun here. Please don’t be afraid to post more because of me. I enjoy looking the pictures and videos you posted. Thank you for sharing.

@FornasettiLover from one Fornasetti Lover to another (I have a lot of the Julia plates) I really appreciate your post! I have not had the pleasure of seeing any ACA or super ideals irl. But to my untrained eye, I actually prefer the slightly wider angles of your diamond. Thanks for sharing the pics and video!

Many of us have had excellent cut diamonds that are not superideal! To some, very top cut is their greatest priority, and others want high color and clarity and are willing to go to an excellent but less perfectly cut stone. There certainly are plenty of nice stones that are not superideal cut. You did exactly the right thing by having a vendor that understands great cut evaluate this stone for you!

You are more than welcome to share your experience, and I hope you ask the moderator not to delete your thread. Your diamond is beautiful and I am so glad you found what you were looking for!

@FornasettiLover Thank you for posting this educational information! It will be super helpful for PSers looking into something similar. Your new diamond looks amazing and so icy white, with the added data point of having the experienced WF team look at it.

Everyone has different preferences, so color, clarity (even eye-clean) can bother one person every day or not matter at all. For myself, I can definitely see a tint even in an F (it's fun to see your D here!), but it's all perspective - I went to F from H, so I'm just grateful to not see as much warmth every day.

Is this stone a GIA VG by chance? Or does it have only an AGS report? I see a nontrivial degree (pun not intended) of digging in those photos and videos.

Have you had it sent out to look at? What is WF’s evaluation?

Edit - apologies, there’s a lot of backstory here that I missed! I see that my questions were addressed in the original thread about this stone.

I’m very glad you’ve found “your” happy place of Cs and priorities - I think you chose one of the absolute best vendors out there to help figure it out!! And I look forward to seeing it set ::)

@FornasettiLover this is an informative and fun thread, thank you for sharing. Your stone is beautiful and I enjoyed seeing the comparison videos. We tend to get quite nit picky about cut around here. You are right though, there are stones for all tastes and preferences and yours is lovely and It looks amazing on you! I hope it brings you much happiness! Please don’t leave the forum.

You’re lucky ;-)

My formal entry is covered in monkey wallpaper... because why not? It makes me happy to look at, yet another form of art.

Many of us do not have the ability to travel to see super ideals, and this is intended for them. I've asked the mods to leave it up. Whiteflash deserves a lot of credit for their creativity and effort. Thank you all for your very kind words.

Your stone is beautiful and I can’t wait to see the final ring. I’m sorry once more time if my logic is wrong. I didn’t meant to say your whole thread is misleading. I actually was curious about the 3ct G when I got notif email from WF when they got it and I’m glad that you share these pictures and videos.
Oh btw, to see super ideal stone we don’t go anywhere other than FedEx office. WF and HPD make it easy for us to see the diamond in comfort of our own home just like when you get this stone. If we don’t ended up getting it its OK just return it, that’s how we got to see couple super ideals before deciding. most of other sellers have restrictions that we only got to see 1 diamond in 6months time I think, but they make it easy, the whole process is easy.

Once again, I’m sorry.

Thank you. They certainly do make the whole process very easy! Unfortunately to see the stones side by side in real life would mean buying both of them, and that is not in my budget, not even short term. I absolutely agree that WF is a wonderful vendor who goes above and beyond.
