It is coming around to birthday time and I was set to get the Whiteflash XO Select pendant in the .50tcw size (.125 each stone, the X measures 10mm X 10mm) in platinum. Then I saw this purse on a lady and I managed to (hawkeye) find out is a Louis Vuitton, but not the monogrammed canvas which I don''t particularly like. Plus I am unwilling to pay that kind of money for canvas. This purse is in their "Epi" leather. I tried to look up what the Epi Leather is, but was not able to find much of an answer. Is it really leather, not something that is constructed to look like leather?? I know there are LV fans out there and hopefully they will chime in. My next post will attach the picture of the handbag.

I am kind of torn because the pendant is something that 20 years from now I can still love and wear, I am not sure that the purse will have that kind of durability. I have never purchased an LV purse before, do you think that they are value for money? I do take really good care of my purses, but perhaps I could fall out of love with the shape of the bag etc? It is fairly unique.

In terms of price, with lengthening the chain on the pendant etc and adding sales tax to the cost of the purse etc, the purse will be about $100 more expensive. I can only buy one OR the other. Is LV like Coach where a specific purse is available for a season, then it''s gone and you have to eBay it or you are out of luck? (Already I am trying to think of ways to have them both - if the LV is available only for the season, I could get that for my birthday, then the pendant for our November anniversary, or just because : ) Diamond obsession really is a sickness.

I wish you well,

Bridget

This is the purse (with the absurdly long name that I am not including!) It''s kind of fan shaped. Oh, do LV purses have small pockets inside for things like cell phones and sundries that a lady carries with her?

I wish you well,

Bridget

With no hesitation, the XO pendant. I love classic pieces that stand the test of time and are worth 10x their price.

hehe well i dont like that LV bag so i'd say the pendant.

LV does not typically have too many 'seasonal' styles, you can typically find most styles there a year or two after you see them, but you may want to call the LV store and ask about that particular bag and style and how long it has been out and if they plan to discontinue it.

Also I would not get LV on eBay, there are too many fakes out there to tell what is what, UNLESS you find someone who has the receipt and the tags and everything and you can verify it with the store etc. But otherwise, ixnay on the ebay lv bag...hehee.

So probably the pendant for me...I'd get the LV bag in 6 months or whatever. They also typically come in and out of style, aka my GF has tons of them and one she used to wear when she was in HS was popular last year again.

Then again who am I to talk, I just splurged on an LV only 4-5 months after getting my last one. Gotta love a good purse.

XO hands down, no doubt about it in my mind!!!

My vote is for the pendant and an early Happy Birthday to you!

As much as I love LV purses (and the Epi leather is really nice and very durable), I would definately have to vote for that pendant. That is such a cute design and I think you would get a lot more use out of it for a much longer time!

i am going against the current and saying LV. i think i would pick a more classic LV- especially for your first one- but i''d go LV.

Hmmm. That is not my fave pendant. What about a Diamonds By The Yard necklace? Okay, okay ... if we''re voting between those two -- LV. (Just ''cause I think the shape of the bag is more classic than the shape of the pendant).

Well.....I''m kind of biased.

I think you know what my answer is.

Seeing that you''re posting this question on a diamond message board I don''t think you''ll get entirely unbiased answers. I say go for the pendant too.

I am not really into the pendant and I don''t think it''s a classic look. On the other hand, I don''t like that particular LV purse either. LV purses are not very seasonal unless you get the limited edition stuffs, but they maintain their values well because they are limited editions. DH''s aunt has a Epi LV purse from the 90s (I think) and the other day she went to a LV store to buy another purse. The salesperson there was telling her how she can probably get lots of money for her Epi purse because the entire purse is leather (even the lining) and they don''t do that anymore. So I think if you keep the purse in good condition, it probably will maintain good value or at least an investment piece that will get used a lot. Everyone need one good purse.

Between the two I would choose the diamonds!

My advice,

Go for the pendant. It will last longer. You can wear it in all seasons. Plus, I''ve heard epi leather doesn''t last that long. In fact, the canvas is more durable. I have 14 year old vuitton speedy. It is worn and has a patina. It''s lovely and I use it for travel.

But I would get the pendant!!!!

I really like that purse but for my money I would go with the pendant! That is something you can have forever - these purses will wear out in time - even if it takes 10 years!

XO pendant!

Louis Vuitton's craftsmanship isn't so great. I have the big monogrammed tote and I spilled WATER on the leather. IT STAINED! $1500 down the drain.

The salespeople said, "Oh! You can't get water on the leather because it hasn't been tanned." So what if it rains when you're carrying your LV purse? RUINED! ARGH!!!!! Pen marks? Stained forever. I would actually get stressed out while carrying it because everything I did stained the leather. Hello Fendi. Goodbye high maintenance LV.

That model won't stain, but I'd spend the money on a pendant!

Hi Bridget,

I have the LV purse that you posted, and I have to tell you that the shape of the bag doesn't allow much to be carried in it. I've had it for a year and I've only used it a couple of times. It's languishing in handbag heaven at the back of my closet at the moment ;)

My vote goes to the pendant!

ETA: That LV bag is part of the permanent collection, not seasonal. It also had a mobile phone pocket on the inside, which is lined in gray macrosuede.

Cheers,

Jade.

i''d actually get a great bag over most pendants...but I''m not a collector really...

Happy Early Birthday to you!

To choose between the pendant and the purse ... I vote for:

X&O Pendant.

Keep us updated!

I''d vote for the pendant, but I wouldn''t get the XO pendant. Maybe a solitaire. I don''t know. I''m not much for spending money on purses, but today I just bought a $200 pink Coach bag at the Coach outlet . . . sounds like peanuts compared to what the rest of you spend on purses, but as I was driving home I was thinking . . . what the "H E double hockey sticks" (as my 10 yo daughter says) am I doing dropping $200 on a pink purse??? Now I wouldn''t be thinking that if it was a diamond pendant.

XO pendant is the way to go.

I gotta vote for the pendant! The style isn''t my taste, but then again if it were given to me I wouldn''t turn it down, lol! I''d way rather put my moolah towards a durable good such as diamonds than a handbag, although I''m quite tempted sometimes by all the handbag eye candy on PS! I think the bag is beautiful, but I''ve never heard anyone say "Louis Vuitton is a girl''s best friend!"

Another pendant vote. I do love a nice LV, but a pendant will last forever. I particularly like the X pendant too!

As many of you know, I do not care much about purses. I feel (not "think", mind you..."feel"...this is just personal) that they are a waste of money. I will "invest" in a stone that, in time of war I could slip into a little pouch and take with me.

Also: for those of you who are into designer bags, you should know that some of us never glance at anyone's handbag and, if we did, wouldn't have a clue that one was a "Coach" or a "Louis Vuitton"!!!

I think clothes are also a waste of money, but would prefer to buy some Lilly Pulitzer clothing for a couple of hundred dollars than a designer purse. If one wants to create a great appearance, clothing is far more important than bags or jewelry! (I am not trying to create a great appearance at the moment. I'll let you know when I lose enough weight to wear Lilly Pulitzer again!)

In summary: I'd take the pendant!!!!!!

Deb ;-)

Hi! The pendant will still be beautiful long after the purse has worn out or gone out of style.

I vote for the pendant too.

Well, thank you to all who posted replies. I went today to my local LV store and looked at the handbag. I honestly was not that thrilled with it, it looked a little "plasticy" to me, that may go away with time and wear, but I''m not going to spend that kind of money on something that I do not really, really like. So, I have decided to go with the XO pendant. Maybe it will be ready by Saturday : ) You can be sure I will have a new thread for it : )

In late December it was my husband''s birthday and he said that he would rather get all the Buffy DVDs and not a pipe (which was what I was going to get him), then he also wanted the Angel DVDs, then in January he decides he *also* wants the pipe : ) This means that I am also getting a really cute Coach purse for my birthday as well as the pendant : ) It''s only due out in April, but they have them in the distribution centre so it should arrive this week. It is the Optic Signature and has a whimsical little bee on it. bee is my nickname, so it really kind of fits.

I wish you well,

Bridget
