My husband wants to buy me a diamond pendant necklace. I''m still deciding whether to go for a 3 stone pendant (vertical) or a solitaire pendant. I went to my local jeweler and he had some solitaire pendants that he could show me, but he did not have any 3 stone ones. Though he is making one for me to try on, I think that''ll help me in making up my mind. He feels that White Gold is good enough for a necklace and that I donot need to put additional money in Platinum. I would love to get your opinions.

This is the link to Blue Nile with the 3 stone pendant that I like:

Thanks a lot in advance!

I just had a diamond and sapphire pendant made and we went with white gold. I have to say I agree with your jeweler. I''m for white gold for pendants and earrings.

Normaly im in the gold isnt ment to be white camp but in this case i agree that white gold is a better choice over plat.

Well, here''s another point of view. I had a tiny diamond (that had been in a ring) set in a pendant in WG. Didn''t really even consider platinum since the diamond was really quite small. I wore it a few times and within a few weeks, it turned noticeably (to me) yellowish. It still looks white from a distance but it is definitely yellowish.

So, when I was having a new pendant made (with a larger diamond) I set it in platinum and don''t regret it at all. I wear it a lot and never worry about how "white" the setting looks. The cost differential was nothing to sneeze at but worth it to me when considering how much the stone cost and how often I planned to wear it. Good luck with your decision.

I wear my moissanite and white gold earrings almost every day, shower in them, swim in them, get hair styling products on them. Absolutely as white as the day I bought them almost 2 years ago. I''ve heard of others complaining of the white gold showing yellowish but I''ve never had that problem in any of the pieces of jewelry I own.

From what I''ve gathered from posts on here, WG will yellow with some people but not others depending on their skin''s chemistry and how it reacts with the WG alloy or the rhodium plating. If you''ve got other WG pieces and they''ve held up their whiteness for you, go with WG. If you don''t know how WG reacts with your skin and you REALLY want to be sure your necklace stays as white as the day you bought it, go for plat (or what about sterling silver?). I''m allergic to nickel (common WG alloy), so I personally go for sterling or plat than WG, so you might have to take that into account too.
