I’m looking at an old mine cut, and there are these two areas that I notice at times that look like a long dark line. They do come and go, and I can’t tell if they’re slim facets, light leakage under the edges of the table, or something else. I drew arrows to what I’m referring to in the first pic with the top one dark and the bottom light. In the second pic you can see how they’re both light. Is this happening because of the cut? Thank you!

Looks like a girdle reflection? Is the girdle very thick and bruted?

Is it light leakage because stone is spready?

Girdle is medium to slightly thick and depth is 66%. I looked at it while wearing white today and didn’t see it go dark. You can see what I mean in this pic… don’t know if it’ll bug me! It’s sitting on top of an empty setting here. Can’t get super focused pics with the new iPhone but tried my best to capture what I’m seeing.

Hi,

It seems to be the head shadow darkness if you don't see it dark when there's no head shadow (Far from your eyes) and you see it dark if you keep it close to your eyes.

but check it carefully under the presence/absence of head shadow, to make sure.

also if it's a light leakage part it should be the same color as the background of the stone each time, so change the color of the background to test this

the thing that you see it goes bright and dark on each side because this is dependent on the tilting of the stone, both light leakage and head shadow can be like this; so just check it to make sure which one it is

also, ASET scope/Ideal scope can help you a lot

Seems like a girdle reflection or something to me. Reminds me a little of fish eye… but not sure if that’s what it is. I definitely see why you are talking about.

Try colouring the girdle with a water soluble marker. If that makes those reflections go black you might have the culprit?

If there is no head shadow and it is far away from your eyes, it appears to be the head shadow darkness; if it is near your eyes, it appears to be the head shadow darkness.

Just make sure by closely examining it in the presence or absence of a head shadow.

To test this, alter the backdrop color. Additionally, if there is a light leaking portion, it should always be the same color as the stone background.
