What are your thoughts on this rough beauty?

I received this from a well-known artist in return for helping him with his gallery. He received it from a client of his in exchange for some art in the 80’s. He said that the client would travel to and from the Amazon Forest region back then bringing back raw minerals and gemstones. I’ve had it for years, but have never had it looked at by anyone. So, I was curious as to your thoughts. He was told it was emerald, and it does have a nice deep green color in sections, but a google photo search brought up so many other possibilities that it made my head spin…lol

Hello and welcome to PS! Lovely specimen!! It could be beryl, yes, or perhaps tourmaline. I was also going to say fluorite, but I think those crystals grow in geodes and not towers. Enjoy!
