time for me to make choices on this, and realizing i have no musical expertise! we are doing a catholic ceremony so have to stay tradtional, which is fine since that''s the vibe i''m going for.

any musical experts out there--what are nice choices for prelude, seating of parents, bm entrance?
for my entrance and our exit--i''m going with the obvious! (bridal march and wedding march)..
and for the ladiees who''ve already made choices/been married, what did you select?

below were our choices (copied and pasted from our programs)

the church had a list that we had to pick from for the readings and song choices.

From what I remember from my wedding:

Bride''s procession: Canon in D

You are Mine
Amazing Grace
Ave Maria
Trumpet Voluntary

There were more but I can''t remember right now.

thanks girls, keep ''em coming! seems like more brides are choosing canon d these days instead of bridal march..

PROCESSIONAL:

“Hornpipe” in D Major” by George Frideric Handel
“Canon in D Major” by Johann Pachelbel

RECESSIONAL:
“All You Need is Love” by the Beatles

“Salut d’Amour” by Edward Elgar
“Divertimento in D Major” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
“Eine Kleine Nachtmusik Serenade No.13
In G Major 4th Movement” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Hiya! When I was deciding on my music I couldn''t remember what a lot of the "typical" classical music sounded like, so I found some wedding websites that had music samples listed on them.

The type of music you want will also depend on the kind of instruments you choose... a string quartet would be fabulous for "Pachebel''s Canon," but if you have a church wedding with a trumpet and organ, you''re probably going to prefer the "Wedding March." Some songs are better suited for different kinds of instruments.

Here are some links to samples that I found just while rummaging around on the web...

(These are both string quartets, since that''s what I''m using.)

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but most likely you cannot use the bridal chorus or wedding march in a Catholic church. Most Catholic churches (and Episcopal and Lutheran and even many Methodist ones) will not allow the use of secular music in the liturgy. I think most dioceses actually forbid it so it isn''t even up to the priest.

How about Trumpet Voluntary or Trumpet Tune instead? Very regal and sophisticated! Good luck planning!

JCrow-

Which song did you actually walk down the aisle to? I am assuming Trumpet Voluntary and the girls walked to Canon in D? I''m having a hard time deciding too...thanks, Janine for starting this thread!

dani -

'Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring', Bach - mothers

'Canon in D', Pachelbel - bridesmaids

'Trumpet Voluntary', Purcell - bride

Thanks JCrow!! What about your dh? Did he walk down to anything or he was just there already? I ''m not sure exactly how it goes...

i think after the mothers walked down the aisle, the groomsmen & groom walked out from the back of the church. the gm went to the center aisle of the church (middle of the main walking aisle) and awaited the maids while dh stood at the end of the aisle. the bm one by one went down the aisle and met their gm and together they walked down the rest of the aisle. then the trumpets sounded. the doors opened and my granfather and i walked all the way down the entire aisle and met dh at the very end. so he really didn't walk to a specific song.

thanks lazydaisy, i hadn''t thought of that. i''m actually marrying in a university chapel (with a catholic ceremony), so i don''t know if that makes a difference. the chapel gave me a list of songs to choose from, so that''s what i''ve been basing on, but i''ll have to ask if it has to be approved by the priest. ack, so many things to do!
