DH would like to buy me another Chanel bag (i've only got one presently) as part of his 10th anniversary present (or rather presents !!

) to me. I am not sure what I should go for. I'd like something not too small (more for day use rather than an evening handbag) but practical at the same time, meaning it should be lightweight, roomy, durable, scratch-proof and versatile (it should go well with a biz suit as well as a pair of jeans). It shouldn't be too big either as that would look funny on my petite (5'2") frame.

Any suggestion?

Ok, I just went to their website and saw the lambskin totebag which looks rather nice but not sure how big it is and whether it is scratch-proof. I''ll need to also check if they carrry it in S''pore.

Funny thing is I saw a bunch of different styles in the shop but they''re not on the website. Weird!

Anyone?

i only have one. it is the cambon and doesn''t scratch. i really don''t know but for some reason i thought the lambskin may scratch easily. this may not be correct just something i thought. i read on tpf that cambon is going to be discontinued.

Thanks, Crown! I thought the same thing abt the lamskin too but doesn''t it look divine though (?). I don''t know what a cambon looks like. Would you be able to post a photo by any chance? Thanks.

Been contemplating the same thought. I love everything on the chanel website, and have been trying to decide the last two months. Best thing to do is visit the stores, and judge for yourself. Either the boutiques, or the boutiques within department stores. I finally found one, and fell in love with it even more once I got to touch it in the boutique. Still trying to decide what to do... so many handbags, and so little time... what''s a girl to do...? Good luck, and please post pics of your decision, can''t wait to see!!

hi! i am technologically challenged. but if you go to the channel site on the purse forum you can get what you want. hth.

I have the classic one but with exposed stitching. There''s also a simple pebbled leather tote DF likes!

Can I ask a stupid question? Where can I find the purse forum? I did a search but nothing of the sort came up. Thx.

Lambskin is NOT scratch prrof. I have a lot in lamb and use it only for dress occasions. You should be looking at Caviar leather. However, I will warn you than nothing in Chanel that is roomy and has chain and is Caviar leather is going to be light. You will not unlikely to find something that meets all of those requirements...It will either be smaller and lighter, or larger and heavier. Unless you forgo chain on the bag, which you can do, but that is so much a part of the looks to me. You might like the basic classic, in a mid size, in Caviar. However, there is a new flat link chain that I dislike, it will likely date the bag and is very heavy to me. Also, different countries stock different styles, so it is hard to know what is available to you there.

i, unlike df, am not a fan of the chain. it is all a matter of personal taste but i prefer a leather strap.

eta: when you get into tpf select the chanel site and then the chanel reference library. in that section there are multiple threads of pics only. hth.

Thanks, Crown 1.

Another website!

I have the chain on some of my Chanels and like it because it sort of typifies Chanel to me, but I have other Chanels without chain as well. There is a great flat bottom, two handled bag with a medallion zipper and double C''s and no chain that I own and love. I just was saying I prefer the classic chain to the new funky one...

Well, I''ve narrowed down my choices to the following (all mid-sized):

1) A Classic, in caviar black, very "classic" of course!

.

2) Pocket in the City, in black or brown (the brown is really gorgeous, it''s this dark very very slightly reddish, very dark brown with a slight sheen), very trendy and hip (great for afternoon teas and shopping with the girls, maybe even for cocktails), but not sure if it''d hold up against time or whether the look will soon become dated.

3) Not sure what this one is called, but it''s kind of like a tote, boxy looking, very roomy, with handles that have chain and bits of leather in the middle, very practical.

I also like the black Cambon with the white logo but unfortunately it''s been discontinued.

So now I am more confused

. I love all three bags but they have different purposes. I wish I could buy all three but DH would absolutely kill me!!

I am getting a new Chanel bag tomorrow, there is one I really like that is expandable on the bottom (it has a zip that goes around the bottom). It is different, and I am a bit torn because I like classic things with staying power but I like to look not so mature either. I am debating it. I just got two classics in caviar, one the jumbo and one the small more rectangular one, great for lunches out etc. I really think you cannot go wrong if you love it.

i am not familiar with the "zip" style you are considering. what color are you looking for?

It came in black but I liked this sort of tan color. It zips all around the bottom and is a slouchy soft leather. I am kind of over black bags, but I am not sure this color is dark enough going forward for fall, and I just bough a brown Balenciaga bag, a sort of cocoa color. This bag is lighter with a bit of rosey beige, but it is not super light. I am going to go on their site and see if I can find it for you, I do not know the name but it is a newer style.

On the Chanel site, go to accessories, and then to pre collection spring summer, it is in section #03, and it says expandable quilted calf flap bag...they show it in white. I also like the lamb flap bag with new closure, which is there also, maybe in spring/summer...

your direction was good. i had not seen this style before. i hope you get the one you like. it''s always great to get a new handbag. i agree with you about black handbags. i have a few and am not pining for more at the present.

My only concern is it is really soft and for me, as a daily bag, that may be too delicate. I am sure they are also getting things in for fall soon, and wonder if I should wait to see what else comes in. But it is a nice size and shape for a daily bag...

OMG, I LOVE that bag! I think it''s called the Ligne (I could be wrong). I''d love to buy it, but need to go to the shop and check it out. Someone on the Purse Forum does say that it is quite heavy too. But it IS really beautiful, probably not the most practical, but who cares, right (?!! he he).

I''m eyeing that one in white. Is that a version without the zip?

Is white lambskin asking for trouble?

YES! The expandable only comes with the zip around the bottom so it expands to hold more...l

Darn. Any suggestions for a white one with which to travel? I have a Tods one that has done well but I'm ready for a new one.

I would only do white in caviar, white just seems to attract dirt and the lamb gets totally marked up...

Good idea! What about Bottega Veneta? Too smooth?
