I''m going to Rochester NY for Christmas, and we might do some walking around downtown. Rochester = cold. Houston = not cold. So I usually wear flats when it gets to a blustery 49 degrees here.

So...what do you ladies wear when you are walking around for shoes? I''m not talking running shoes. Cute, stylish, walking around the city shoes??? Post pics if you can!

Houston girl here as well. I just had this same problem. I needed walking shoes/boots for Colorado last week. I ended up buying a mid-calf rubber sole boot at DSW.
It was perfect. The days were in the 50''s and very wet. Nights way colder and rainy.

Good luck. I''m sure you will get better solutions than mine, I''m just not that experienced with really cold weather.

I''m in the DC area, and I know it''s cliche, but I love my *knock off* Uggs from Target for the chilly weather. If there''s not too much snow on the ground, the sole goes up high enough that the "suede" doesn''t get wet, and they''re REALLY warm. Even if they do get wet, it''s never permeated through the liner, so my feet have also stayed quite dry!

Best of luck staying warm in NY!

Bump...anyone else?

I think that cute shoes and winter do not go together. Ever.

You could get hunter wellies with the wellie socks...that''s about as cute as it gets. Uggs of course are popular too. Make sure it''s some kind of boot because it can get COLD.

I live in Rochester NY. You might want to try these....

Try Tod''s loafers.

I love classic black flats, I wear them with everything... everywhere. I also have a pair of flat suede ankle boots that I love to wear, and they are rather warm.

Since we''re talking about winter, I''m definitely a boots girl. Classic black boots, with heels from 5 to 7cm, are ideal for me.

Ooh this winter, I''m usually in knee high flat boots. Cole Haan Air Petras to be precise - super comfy, and pretty warm

Look at the short boot called Spire by Merrell. They have a thick sole to keep the muck out, and they are cute, soft black leather. I can walk three miles in them as easily as in athletic shoes.

When I am in the North, I wear these!

They worked great in Indiana and Chicago last February and they are SOOOO comfortable. I just wear my jeans over them, or tucked in if I am wearing them more for style.

They are my Hunter Boots

You can buy different color liners as well, to change it up a bit.

Mer, do your boots resemble Hunter Tylo or Rachel Hunter? hahaha that''s part of who pops up when I click it!

Oh heeeey now..those are cute!! Not so much in my price range but dang cute!! I''ve been spending a lot of time browsing for some to wear just around town in the snow, but never knew there was such an animal as insulated rain boots. Hmm..I may have to look into these further. Not sure I''m the fashionable type that can pull it off but I like them!

Flat boots is good for walking. Warm and convenient!

LOVE Merrell shoes in winter. I have a few pairs in different styles that are my winter shoes. Much nicer looking than ahtletic shoes but just as comfortable.

They are all rubber, and I couldn''t really tell, so I just put them on our scale, and they weighed in at just under 5 lbs, both boots together.

They can feel a bit odd a first, but you should definitely check them out.

I live in NY and love wearing Frye's Erin oxfords, as pictured here on Ashley Greene. I have them in grey but they also come in black, brown, and cranberry. They look great with skirts/tights or jeans/trousers and I've gotten loads of compliments on them.

ETA: I only wear these when there's no rain or snow. I have my Hunter wellies and Merrell boats for those days.

Here''s a live action shot of the frye oxford. I know they''re not for everyone but I like how they''re kinda geeky chic. I was surprised DH liked them too. Please disregard the steamer in the background. I''m obviously trying to avoid laundry by logging on to PS.

I live in Boston, and I''d suggest Mukluks :)

I bought some Merrill''s that look like hiking boots but are regular shoe height. I like them in snow.

CDinNYC: your oxfords are adorable!!!

My SIL was wearing these Christmas day and I thought they were so cute and functional I had to order a pair for myself. They should be here tomorrow--yay!

They''re great! I really, really like them. Warm, good traction, cute with tights and skirts or jeans. I got them from Shoebuy.com for $57 total, on sale/free shipping/no sales tax/first time buyer discount.
