The owner diamond tested it and sure enough, they are single cuts. But he said it’s sterling silver. I took s Chance but is it rare to set diamonds in silver? Could this be a genuine antique piece? Does turquoise rust like the back of this one?

The fallacy is to assume because one can afford x for example, they can also afford (or want to afford) y and z.

Diamonds can be set in anything. Choosing to afford a diamond doesn't have to mean you automatically want to afford a higher priced metal. I've seen loads of silver with diamond jewellery.

Gorgeous pin by the way, whatever it is!

My friend bought a tanzanite ring on a cruise that was silver but had a halo of diamonds and a diamond shank. I thought it was so strange to not just use WG!

Nala, you might want to post this in the antique/vintage forum they will probably be able to help you figure out its approximate age and authenticity. I don't think it's unusual during certain periods for diamonds to be set in silver especially during war periods.

Good to know! Thank you!

Exactly! I guess we are all accustomed to associate diamonds with gold. Lol

Will do! Thanks!

As far as the turquoise goes, it looks like the clean side of the stone is on the front and the flaws are in the back. That’s not rust. Those are inclusions. It is a gorgeous pin, by the way.

Agree with Chatoyancy............treasured Robin's egg blue too!

Yes, the turquoise flaws are hidden. Not rust. I grew-up around oodles of turquoise. My grandpa and uncle dug-up a bunch of it in Arizona way back when, so I was surrounded by it. I have a few rough "chunks" around here somewhere...

Have you tested it ? It looks older, it’s a nice piece, there’s a lot of detailed work so that’s a sign of quality.
Looks like a “score” to me. :appl:
And pawnbrokers can be wrong,.
Only a month ago I bought from a pawnbroker on eBay “a Stirling (sic) ring with blue stone”. Ring is clearly hallmarked for 9ct gold and it’s a natural blue sapphire.

Thank you all!! I wore it today and it's quite an eye cathcher! I keep getting compliments!

Wow, beautiful. Edwardian jewellery and older pieces can sometimes be silver on the outside/top and 18/19k gold underneath. It's so counterintuitive. Gotta give credit to antiques road show for that nugget of knowledge!

Omg! That’s great to know! I guess I’ll find out soon Bc I need to replace a missing stone. I knew about it before I bought it so it’s no big deal. Just a matter of taking it to my bench.
