So I proposed to my gf yesterday. She loved the ring. Haven''t got down to taking hand shots. She suggested that she get me something. I''m struggling to think of something i''d want. Any ideas?

I got my husband an X-Box 360.

What kind of "stuff" do you like? My bf LOVES computers/electronics...his gifts NEVER come cheap!
Are you talking about jewelry? My bf hates jewelry and doesn''t own one piece of it. Depends on what you like...what kinds of things do you like?

Ah, that is sweet of her! I bought my husband a watch. Congrats on the proposal

eta: I saw the ring in SMTR, beautiful!!! etaa: my hubbys thing was that he wanted a high karat ring so that was mainly what he wanted and we bought him. He is darling, he loves his ring!

I think a great watch or maybe really nice cufflinks can be nice for a man. Really depends on his taste though. I would prefer to buy an item that will not go obsolete, but not all men are into jewelry. A nice watch however seems to be something that works well for most men.

My boy didn''t want a ring, so I bought him a really nice gold chain.
I guess it just depends what you''re into?
A good watch is a lovely idea, everybody needs one of those.

Thanks Skippy. At first I wasn't convinced about the ring but now I can't take my eyes off it. It looks wonderful on her finger.

Yeah I love electronics but she made a good point about something that would last as long as an e-ring. She too suggested a watch, like an omega. If i had it my way, i'd get an electronics hamper...hehehe... (ps3, iphone, osim usqueez).

I can get anything of same value as the e-ring.. woohoo... i'm so lucky! I'm open to watches, not jewelry.

I like the watch idea!

I second the watch suggestion. I personally love watches and so does my guy, although he likes more expensive stuff than me.

I got my husband a watch.

My FI wanted a guitar at first, but then couldn''t find one that he wanted. So I ended up getting both of our wedding bands as my engagement gift to him.

I also got my DH a watch. As a surprise, I "stole" it back after the engagement, and had the back engraved with our engagement date and initials.

A kiss?

I wanted to buy my man a watch for engagement. He was non-plussed.
So I bought him cufflinks.
He was still non-plussed.
I wish I''d bought him a fishing rod...

You could have an ''engagement'' ring I guess, like a man''s dress ring with a little diamond in it, that you could wear on your RH when you get married...

I got my FI an engagement guitar

I thought a watch would be a great gift--he could keep it forever, I could get it engraved, it was jewelry...it seemed like the perfect counterpart to my e-ring. But DH wouldn''t wear a watch if his life depended on it, so it was really a bad fit for him.

So instead he got a bunch of much-needed mountaineering equipment for an expedition he was about to take.

It really comes down to whatever you want! A gift is supposed to be something you''ll love, even if it''s not necessarily traditional!

I am pretty sure my FF is hoping for an engagement pinball machine LOL

Is there something you particularly want? I say go for that :)

My DH wanted a ring. A friend who recently got engaged received an engagement camera while another friend didn''t want anything.

What are your hobbies?

I bought my fiance'' an engagement ring very similiar to my Dad''s. It has a G color SI clarity .30 pt diamond in it.

I think the watch idea is very nice. You can have something sweet and sentimental (with the date) engraved on the back to commemorate your engagement. I always thought that the guys should get something too!

wow. everyone got their fiances something for their engagement? I didn''t realize that was something people did. I''m starting to feel cheap! Eeek.

That is so nice of your girlfriend!

What about going to a gallery and picking out a work of art? That''s something that would last forever.

As an engagement present, DH got to move in and share the condo I spent 10 years saving up for, while he was drinking the best wines and eating steak. He seemed happy with that.

I have my husband a watch.

I''m getting my guy a car.

LOL If it were that easy. I''m actually paying for the taxes and tags for his new car that he so needs right now.

I gave my husband the own payment for his '06 Subaru STI.

It was likely the same amount he spent on my ring, but I had sold a second car and really wanted him to have his dream car, even if he doesn't keep it forever.

Kind of frightening because it was our first joint major purchase.

Oooooo, a car, good idea. I want this one though. I doubt I can get it. None of the watches catches my fancy. I still go back to my trusty g-shock. =)

I think a watch is a nice idea... especially when it's a really nice one that will last, and maybe even engraved to be sentimental. DH isn't into watches though... he was hoping for a plasma TV, but on my student salary, he knew it wasn't going to happen. Still, I was saving up and keeping my eye out for deals, but my parents knew it was stressing me out, so they actually got us one for a "wedding gift"... despite the fact they also paid for the whole wedding! So DH was happy, I was off the hook, and we both benefited from an awesome new TV! I <3 my parents.

nabwong, i also got my hubby a watch for the engagement...it was a v nice limited edition tag heuer - it''s nice that he gets to wear it everyday just like i wear my rings :)

Maybe I''m old fashioned, but I''ve not really heard of getting engagement gifts for boys. I certainly didn''t present my then FI with anything. I did eventually buy him a TV, but that was more of a just because/for the new house present.

You''re probably right. It''s not a common thing maybe. But we''re not one for traditions. That said, I wasn''t expecting anything from her. She was the one that insisted that she get me something and I''m not one to refuse. LOL.
