What can you do with an old setting if you decide to reset your diamond (except keeping it for sentimental value)? Can you sell it or trade it in? For how much of the original price would you be able to sell it?

Keep it fr sentimental value. Scrap gold is sold for pennies on the dollar, if that.

I have a whole collection in my safe.

I have saved one for sentimental reasons and all the others in the hope that someday I can have jewelry made for my girls and for my boys to give to their future wife out of the accent gemstones. Some dainty pendants maybe.

I have recently purchased a small pear shaped emerald to be set in my original solitaire e-ring setting. It is my daughter''s birthstone and the ring will be dainty and suited for a young girl. I can''t wear it anymore. It is a size 4.5. My fingers swelled to a 6 during pregnancy and then only shrunk back down to a 5.25 afterwards. My feet got a size bigger too.

I kept it and had a tanzanite set in it.

When I upgraded my e-ring setting, I had my jeweler put a 2 carat emerald cut Citrine (yellow stone, it kinda looks like a yellow diamond) on my old setting (white gold, 2 baguettes on the sides). My new setting is a platinum 3-sided micro pave, now I have 2 rings, I will wear the yellow stone when I go on vacations.

i kept it and had a cz set into mine..i''ve heard many jewelers say that can''t really melt it down and reuse for something else and the amount i could get for selling it doesn''t equal the sentimental value of it being my original wedding set.

I have garnets set into them.

my sister had hers set with CZs. She never ever wears it though.

I had an amethyst put into my original e-ring setting. I wear it a lot.

You can sell scrap gold for around $4-5.00 a gram if you're lucky.

If the setting is in good shape, you can have it polished up and then try and sell it on eBay.

I've kept all my scrap items and have them in a box. They all have sentimental value and it's silly to sell the amount I have since I'd hardly have any $ to put toward anything new.

I''m thinking of putting a color stone inmy old setting- although it''s a solitaire, and I don''t often see a solitaire color stone that''s only a carat. So maybe I''ll put a CZ in it. hmmm.

That''s what I''m planning to do with mine, set it with a colored stone. I''m back and forth between a garnet and a sapphire. My old setting is a 6 prong tiffany style, and it had a .75 carat round diamond in it. So mine''s even smaller than yours. But I still think it would look nice, and I''m planning on wearing it with my two diamond ring guards, anyway...so it''s not like I''ll be wearing it all by it''s lonesome.

Here''s a picture of the setting with one of my ring guards (when it still had the diamond in it). I think this would look really pretty with a colored gemstone.
