What do you all think of this finger coverage on me?

We will be upgrading my current engagement ring in the next 18 months. I’m thinking about going for a pear diamond, micro halo on a thin diamond band. I have very slim fingers (US size 2.5). This will be my forever ring.

I tried on my friend’s ring as it’s very similar to what I’m looking for. Centre stone is 0.75ct (the stone in my current ring is 0.30ct). Please ignore the weird finger poses, the ring was too big on me!!

What do you think of this finger coverage on me? I’m in the U.K. but work in a high paying industry.

I think you have amazing finger coverage because of your beautiful long slim fingers. It looks like the perfect size to me.

My goodness, what beautiful fingers and hands.
I would suggest trying on examples at the .75 and 1 carat weight to make sure you’re happy with the look.
And my 5 cents is that it’s better to invest in slightly larger halo diamonds and two diamonds either side of the halo than a half /full diamond shank.

Agree with @MamaBee Oh to have a 2.5 size ring finger! Just lovely!

And come back here to help search for ovals, as they can be tricky… unless you want a round, then come back here for help searching for those because, while less tricky, we love a good search.

Husband has always praised my fingers as it’s meant he could get away with smaller diamonds!!

Wow thank you for the compliment! I’ve always been a bit conscious of my fingers looking a bit too skinny. I’m open to side stones but husband isn’t sure. I found this pic online which I love but he thinks it looks like a fly?!

Thanks so much!! Does mean every ring is custom unfortunately, but I can get away with smaller centre stones!

I’m actually leaning towards pears & I think they are even harder to get right!

I found this photo online of what I think is the perfect finger coverage (& actually pretty much identical to how my set will eventually look, just the bands swapped). I just wish I knew how I could get that look on my teeny tiny finger!

You have lovelly hands
I like the two of them together a lot as i think the band of the pear is too tiny and looks out of proportion when worn alone
if this is your forever ring its more than likelly that these ultra thin bands will go out of style sooner or latter

Just my opinion mind you

But i do absolutely adore the pear

Looks like you like fat pears. That is good because IMO, it is easier to find a fatter pear with good light return than a longer pear
with good light return.

There is a cool little tool you can use to see how big stones will look on your finger. Unfortunately, it only goes does to size 3 but I
think that is probably close enough. Set your finger size to 3, the band width to about 2.2, enter your diamond sizes and it will show
you how big it will look on your finger.
I think you should start around a 7.5x5.5 stone which is in the .8 - .9 range and about a 1.4 ratio or less (for fat pears).

For example...these 2 stones

Would look like this on your finger
snap 1.png

Remember you are going to put it in a halo so that will add on additional size. So, play around with that tool in the link and you
should be able to narrow down what size pear you need to get to get the look you are after. Good luck!

This is extremely helpful! Especially learning about ratios. Thank you! I definitely want a fat pear. I also feel a skinny only would elongate my finger even more. I noticed when looking at my friends ring that I’m actually quite sensitive to colour, especially when there’s a halo. I’ve been playing around on blue Nile, filtering by ratio & colour & I’ve fallen in love with this one (just window shopping for now). It’s so white!

Definitely out of my price range & too big once you add a halo but it sure is beautiful. Maybe something this in a 1ct?

That's a pretty one but yes, bigger than you need and $$$. The size (LengthxWidth) of pears vary broadly due to the depth so make
sure you check the LxW.

Have fun shopping! Let us know if/when you need feedback on a stone. I suggest you stay in the DEF range if you want to stay
really white. G would still be pretty white but maybe not blindingly white like DEF.

Would you happen to know - if I want the coverage of a 1.5ct solitaire but instead using a centre stone & a micro halo, what size centre stone would I need/should be looking at?

I don't have any halo things so I cant tell you how wide a thin halo is. That tool can help a little but you really need whoever is going
to design your ring tell you how wide the halo would be so you know how big of a center stone to look for.
Here is the 1.5 stone and a .7 stone and you can see the overlap (circled in black) that would be the halo...not sure if its wide enough
though. You may need even smaller than a .7 stone.

You have model hands with nice oval nail beds. I think the oval suits you perfectly! Much better than the pear.

You were blessed with beautiful hands and everything will look great on your finger!
But you're going nowhere until you fix a budget and decide if you're going to buy online or work with a local jeweller.
Even windowshopping is useless if you don't determine how much money you're comfortable spending.
I read you 're in no rush to upgrade your e-ring, but keep in mind that getting the right diamond (shape, color,...) and the right setting can require many months of research.

Yep you’re right. I had long awaited surgery on my ring finger last month so I’ve not been able to check anything out in person. I’m having a Jewish wedding blessing in about 12 months (after 17 years with my Jewish DH I’m finally converting). Id love the ring to be ready for then. My cousin knows a very good jeweller so I’m probably using him (I’ll need the family discount!!)

Ageee, I think the micro pave look will age eventually. And being in the UK, you wear jumpers & gloves a lot of the year and micro pave can catch on knitwear soooo easily.

What do you think of something like this?

As this will be my forever ring I definitely don’t want to do anything which will make it look dated

As far I know a plain wedding band is more suitable for a Jewish wedding: if you plan to wear the blessed wedding band on your daily basis, you should consider the whole stacked look (engagement ring+ plain band + the original wedding ring?)

I think that’s more likely to be wearable compared to micro pave but not a forever style. The micro ballerina is still to me not a style that is timeless.

if you want truly timeless, with a similar outline, I’d consider a three stone. Perhaps an oval center and rounds? Let me do some image digging around. Perhaps something like this - https://www.jewelsbygrace.com/colle...7ctw-oval-cut-diamond-trilogy-ring-gia-d-vvs1

And I totally agree with @purplesilk - for a traditional ceremony, I’d assume you’d go with a plain metal band.

Yes we will both be getting rose gold bands for the ceremony & will be wearing them on the index finger of our right hand (the traditional place to wear it). I’ll then wear my platinum set (original wedding band & my new upgraded engagement ring) on my left ring finger. The Jewish band will not be stacked with my platinum rings. Although I like that idea, husband wants to keep everything separate & as he’s going along with the upgrades engagement ring I’m happy to compromise!

Just a thought, but if you want to tie the new e ring to the new wedding ring, even on separate hands, you could do a rose gold band and a platinum prongs and head…

I had the opportunity to try on some diamonds today. These are L - R, 2ct, 1.5ct & 1ct approx. I was definitely drawn to pears vs other shapes but I’m still open to round. It did confirm that I prefer the fatter pears. What do you all think coverage wise?

I think the 1.5 looks fab, perfect - the 1 carat is great as well. I think the wavy band on the 2 carat is doing my head in a bit, comparison wise.

I am surprised that they look fairly similar! I would get the 1 carat, since it still looks substantial on you.

IMO the 1.5 ct looks perfect.

I love this last set and think it would look beautiful on your slim fingers, good coverage.

I love the 1 carat pear on your beautiful finger!
