I just recently got back on the workout bandwagon, and I''m pretty proud of myself, because though I''ve gained about 3 lbs of muscle, my clothes feel looser and I feel ''tighter''.

Here''s what I do:

Swim 2-3 times a week....usually do about 50-60 laps in a junior olympic size pool.

workout at gym 2-3 times a week: 30 minutes of cardio (eliptical, or treadmill) and 30 minutes of weight training.

You swin and do cardio that often! I wish I had that much time to work out! I'm so jealous!

When I was single, I did step aerobics/weight training 4-5x/week (hey, I had nothing better to do!) I wish I had that kind of time again! I was in great shape!

Now 2 kids and 40 lbs later

, my DH and I go walking (at least 45 minutes, combined with jogging) every Saturday and Sunday morning with the kiddies in the jogging stroller and I have been really good about going to the gym at least 2x a week in addition. Since there aren't any good classes at the time I go, I usually do 20 minutes of stairmaster, 10 minutes of stationary bike or eliptical and 100 sit ups and weights. My gym routine is a little more than an hour, since that seems to be the time limit for my two toddlers.

I miss doing the classes. I hope my gym changes their schedule soon. I used to swim but it seems every time I got into the pool, the daycare was paging me b/c my son would not stop crying. He's getting better now thank goodness!

I should add I've only lost 5 lbs according to the scale, but my clothes fit a lot better.

I don''t really have the time, but I have try to make time.....I guess it''s harder if you''r a SAHM (but you''re not right?)

I swim at the pool in our townhome complex, and I jump in 2 days a week after work while my husband watches the kids, it takes me only about 40 minutes. On the weekend we usually take the kids to the pool one day too, and he''ll play with them while I do the laps.

As for the gym, we try to go as a family Wed, and Sat. Luckily my husband is a fitness buff, so he encourages me to workout. It''s $3 per kid (for gym childcare) each time we go as a family, so we limit it to 2 days a week. If I wanted to go more than 2 days, I go during my lunch break (I work full time, and have 1 hour lunch)....Luckily my company is not strict about the lunch hours, I go to the gym for an hour, and then I com back and eat at my desk for another 30 minutes

I work part time. So I''m a SAH-most-of-the-time mom.

Going to the gym on the days I work is really hard b/c I don''t have time to take a shower and get everything done before I go.

My husband started his own company last fall so he has been putting really long hours in, plus he has a very long commute - sometimes it''s over 2 hours one way! So going to the gym when he gets home is out for now. Last night he got home at 7:30pm. When he gets home he just wants to eat dinner and relax and not chase the 2 1/2 year old and 16 month old around. So I usually go during the day when he''s at work. He gets up at 5am so going before he leaves for work is out too.

My husband used to run competitively when he was in college, so you can say he''s a bit of a slave driver when it comes to working out.

There is a new gym opening up really close to our home this fall and I might cancel my membership at the one I go to now and join the new one. They have a bigger pool that we can bring the kiddies to, which would be great. When we do go to the park district pool now, it takes 2 of us to watch them so unfortunately I don''t get time to do laps there.

We were just talking on when we''re going to have another kid. He wants to have one, like today, whereas I would like to lose a little more weight first. My one girlfriend said have it now and then lose all the weight at once as opposed to losing some, then put it right back on. What do you think?

I don''t think it works that way. I''ve always heard that you should try to lose all your weight before getting preggo again because the lbs that you don''t lose will stay on with each child......

I listened followed that advice, but I can''t say it worked. With my first, I gained 50 lbs and lost it all in 9 months (hard work: Atkins plus exercise). Then I got pregnant again when he was 15 months. I gained 55 lbs with the second!!! My second baby is 14 months now, and I''m still struggling with the last 6-8lbs...which is no big deal, I could live with it, but I really want to tone up the mid-section so that I can fit into pre-preggo clothes (about 50% of my closet!)....I don''t know if that''ll ever happen because I can lose the weight, but it''s distributed differently.

I''m excited for you though. I''d love to have more kids, but my husband says we''re done.....snip snip.

Snip snip...too funny! Maybe after #4 we''ll see about getting my husband "fixed".

Well, my daughter was only 4 months old when I got pregnant with my son.

I only gained 25 lbs with her b/c I had gestational diabetes and my docs were really strict with my weight gain. I hadn''t lost all of it when I became pregnant with #2, so these extra lbs I have now are pregnancy x2 lbs! I can''t even get into my pre-pre-pregnancy clothes!

Thus, I would like to lose more weight. It''s probably unrealistic to expect to lose all of it again before we have another baby. My husband is freaking out b/c he just heard today that one of his former co-workers and his wife just had a baby with Downs Syndrome. Granted, she was 37 (I am only 33) but the older we get, the more he freaks out.

All this exercise talk is making me hungry...

You know what? Go for it! Having babies close in age is a workout in itself.....I see a lot of mom with muliple babies 4 kids under the age of 5 for example, and they are all stick-thin!

Where we live, everyone seems to have married millionaires, because all I see are skinny moms with suburbans and hummers and tons of kids. A lot of these moms even have nannies to care for the kids while they are at the gym or shopping at the mall......

But whether you have a nanny or not, young kids= less sleep=less time to eat= more stress=more work chasing after them=WEIGHTLOSS!

Hey ladies, please feel free to join the workout thread in Are We There Yet? forum. It is great to disscuss and give and recieve tips and encouragment.

HI:

Welll 5 days a week (weekends off)...I do indoors basic yoga stretching, up to an hour or so on my Schwinn recumbent (max tension), ankle weights (for strength) and sit ups until I am tired. If the weather is fine I am out fast walking for an hour--1/2 hour on the bike first. For some reason my arms have always been really muscular/buff (years of cutting the lawn and vacumming???) so I don''t do much to keep them strong. I have always been very "athletic" and miss (and feel I suffer) when I do not do something physical. My hubby is the same and at 50 and still plays competitive hockey. My son however.........

cheers--Sharon

Horseback riding for about 2 hours a week and bicycling maybe once or twice a week for 30 minutes or so.

I used to do 30 of pilates five days a week, but somehow that seems to fallen out of my schedule

I''m an exercise nut. It keeps me sane and supple!

I do:

Three six-mile runs at a seven-minute mile pace
Two 90-minute yoga sessions
Two 30-minute weights sessions

I might subtract one of the above and throw in a Sculpt class or some kickboxing. Either way, I work out five times a week. I also walk my dog 4-5 miles a day.

Matatora: I''ve seen the daily workout threads on LIW, but I always feel weird posting because all the girls are losing weight for their wedding......

I''m so glad there''s people doing different things for excercise....gives me more ideas, because I ten to get bored with something easily.

I don''t "work out" per se (I''m not disciplined enough), but I carry my bicycle up and down from our 2nd floor apartment and bike ~2 miles roundtrip to school and try to take the stairs as much as possible. Carrying my 9 and 12 pound cats around and playing with them also contributes. Plus we''re still unpacking and cleaning up the apartment from the move and wedding.

JaysonsMom- please dont feel weird posting. Some of the oe other ladies are already married and some are not even engaged just yet.
Personally I like to mix carido and weights daily.

I''m kind of the same way...don''t have a regular "work-out" routine, because I''m not that disciplined! But my lifestyle is very physically active. I''m a stay-at-home mom, and I do all the housework and yard work. And BOY do we have a big yard! We are talking acerage, here...lol! I spend hours every week from early April through October working in the yard mowing, trimming, working in the gardens, pruning the trees, and so forth. My house is three stories, and I am up and down my stairs all day long, as well. I sure don''t need a stair stepper, that''s for sure. I also take walks and bike rides with the kids, and really get a work-out everytime I walk the dog. It''s impossible to take a stroll with a mini-schnauzer...she litereally gallops everywhere she goes, so I end up having to walk very briskly to keep up with her! Winter time is a little more challenging, since I''m not working outside as much, but I have a stationary bike that I ride when it''s too cold outside, and I go to the local mall and walk laps around there often in the winter months, as well (that''s fun because I can do a lot of windowshopping that way, and have an iced latte as a treat when I''m done

).

I''m sure if I were working outside the home, like in an office or some other job where I was fairly sedentary, I''d probably get into a work-out routine or join a gym where I could work out on a regular basis. When I did work, it was in a hopital in the ER, and I was pretty much on my feet and running all day, so I was always too tired to do much in the way of working-out.

My Dh and I play tennis for about 1-2 hours every other day and then on the days we don''t play tennis we go work out at the gym for about an hour or so. 10-15 minutes on the treadmill and 45 minutes working out 2 body parts. I have quite a physicsal job that requires me to lift lottas and lottsa moola so I need to keep and build my strength.

I used to play tennis 5 days a week but had to give it up as I have 3 herniated disks in my neck and have had neck surgery so now I walk a lot. Pretty boring. I miss it terribly.

kaleigh: I''m sorry about your injury. I hope your doing well.

We love playing tennis especially when something is on the line. We sometimes have a competitive game and bet on something. The last time we played for something it was for bling. I believe it was for earrings. But unfortunately, I lost. Not by much though. He does have an advantage over me since he can put more power into his serves and forehand swings. He is a guy afterall.

When i do win, we''re never betting for anything. Geesh...

Does lifting a martini glass count as exercise if you do it often enough?

HI:

OH, so THAT''s why my bicepts are unnaturally large

Here is my current routine:

Work out 30-45 minutes a day/5 days a week at the gym.

Usually i do the elliptical machine 3-4 of those days.
The other days i do free weights and the weight machines.

I feel like i need to do more or change it up or something. I have been at this or around this pace for 3 months. i have noticed a difference, but want more.

I go to power yoga 5-9 times a week. I''m starting Yoga Teacher Training in September, I did it once before when I lived in Phoenix, and I subbed a few classes, but I didn''t finish my hours because my fiance''s job got transfered. It''s a great work out! I just hate taking my ring off and leaving it at home when I go, I''m still in the Wow this is really my ring phase.

Since the first post, I''ve really started to enjoy jogging! I started running on the treadmill in the gym at first, and found that it wasn''t as bad as I thought it''d be. I probably built up my aerobic fitness level through swimming and the eilliptical over the past month or 2..... and yesterday for the first time, I went jogging at a trail behind our house, and loved it! I''m thinking of doing this at least once a week for variety''s sake.

Wow you girls are hard core .. much be in great shape...
Me.. I''m one of those people who complain that I don''t have time to exercise... but spend hours in front of the computer drooling over PS....

but I went down from 135 to 115 in a year by changing my diet...
added a lot of raw veggies and drink a lot of water and went easy on the pasta....nothing extreme...

I do plan on buying one of those bouncers they look fun
