I'm tempted to buy this cute little rustic purple diamond I saw online
A little browny violety raisiny thing...

It's 0.33 ct in a 4 x 3.9 x 2.2mm asscher cut.
It's actually not that expensive, but would love to get your opinions on how much something like this should actually cost...

What does PS think? :D

I think buying that is just paying for the word “diamond”. It’s not an attractive stone.

I don’t like the color. It’s muddy. Not a pretty purple IMO.
But if you love it and the price is attractive go for it. It’s a personal decision. You’re not buying it for investment purposes so if you love it and will enjoy it maybe it’s a worth while purchase for you.

Thank you for the candour! :)

It looks a bit more raisin brown than purple I guess  Definitely not for "investment," I've lurked around enough threads on PS to know it's not really a thing... unless you already have millions in the first place
Thank you for your input! :)

In some lighting its going to looks nice in others blah is my take on it.
Would be fun finding out which is which and playing with it but that might get old after say a year or so.

You can find a garnet that does the same for far less money.

edit: I love garnets its just easy to find one that looks good in some lighting and blah in others.

That's fair. The novelty will probably wear off fairly quickly. I think I just "want" it now because I don't physically have it and it seems interesting at the moment

Ohh. They're selling it for just $100

Is this on ebay? There are some Indian cutters who're buying rough from Africa and selling all colors and shapes, very inexpensive. I've gotten 4, 3 of them little RBs (3.5 mm) that I put in a silver ring and one pretty awful little pear. I think you've found one of the better ones. It's fun but most don't even resemble diamonds as we think of them.

Ah no, it's a local seller in my country, they sell on Instagram.
I'm curious about your pear! What made it awful? :D

Sounds like a deal:)
All you can lose is $100
but if one gets $100 worth of fun out of it is it really lost?
Eenie, meenie, minie, mo

I don't care for it and it would cost more money/time than I'd be willing to put into it, but YMMV.

That's fair! I asked the person selling it (they also set jewellery) how much it would be to set it in a kite-set solitaire, 14k gold, and it costs more than the stone itself. It was fun to ponder!

Thanks, all! I think I may just pass on this lil' raisin. I've had a hankering to get a maybe 2 or 3 ct asscher cut moissanite, so I will probably just put the funds towards that. It was nice to get everyone's thoughts! :D

The pear is so included that it looks better upside down. It's sitting in a box. But the little RBs have tints, yellow, brown and light green, and they sparkle quite a bit. They were around $50, I had fun collecting them.
Look up sparklyfancydiamonds on ebay.

I have a yellow 1.5 ct. moissanite Asscher from India set in yellow gold. Predictably the ring cost more than the stone but it's a nice moissy. Love that ring.

Set it in silver *grin*
