What do you think of this sapphire?

well, aside from the major cutting issues, bad proportion, off center cutlet, and flattish crown, it's just very mediocre to me. The silk in this sapphire will not give it the glow since the stone is not very saturated to begin with. I think it's a fair price for an unheated sapphire, but overpriced for Tan's goods, and I feel he has better sapphire deals on his various sites if you look hard enough.

I see a touch of violet in the color. I agree with TL on the other aspects that she pointed out.

Well, I like it! I like the color, but there is zoning evident from one direction. I like silky stones. The cut doesn't bother me too much, but the stone seems pretty expensive for the size.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I don't mind native cuts but since I joined PS one of the valuable lessons I have learned here is DON'T SETTLE. I was in settling mode when I saw this gem. I'm in no hurry so I think this will probably be a pass for me.

The good news on the stone is that it looks like it is deep enough to be recut. Of course, then you are adding to the price of the stone and you may end up with a stone that is worth rather less than you paid for it.

The cut is so terrible that although I’m quite forgiving of some native cuts, this one is downright horrible. Colour wise, it is also very poor.

A recut may be a bad idea if it has zoning issues. I believe that Tan has better.
