i am not posting this to start a political debate. i''m not posting this to ''bait'' anyone.

i am posting this to honor the 2000 fallen in iraq....it may be more by the time you see this. it made me cry.

whether you believe going into iraq was right or wrong for whatever reason, we should all remember that there are faces behind the number 2000. and no matter what side we are on politically, we should all honor our dead.

I cannot get to the website, MZ. I keep getting messages saying that my session has timed out while waiting. Maybe there is just a lot of traffic at the site today.

Of course we can all get together in mourning the loss of our dead; that is what Veterans Day and Memorial Day are for every year.

http://theunitedamerican.blogs.com/Movies/2000A/2000.html is the correct website. i got into it originally before posting but now cannot. perhaps it is ''busy'' with traffic.

re veterans day and memorial day: most people don''t even know why its a holiday much less do anything to honor and mourn our dead. most people are just talking about how glad they don''t have to go to work and are more concerned with where they''re going, the bbq, who''s party they''re going to attend, what''s on sale, etc.

the media has been good at keeping we the people immune from the sacrifice our troops are making. it is good to remember that while you and i make our posts in the safety of our own homes, there are faces behind those numbers being reported.

This is posted on the Internet. At first I felt offended at the idea of it. It seemed to trivialize the deaths of these servicemen to put them up on a monitor so that people at ease at home could point and click as if seeing the dead were some sort of computer game.

As I did it, however, I felt very different. I got to see a boyish face, laughing with red hair; a serious black face seeming determined to do his duty; a middle aged man, relaxed, with glasses. I saw so many handsome men, so many men whose age was listed as something bizarrely young, like 21. I saw the different branches of service and then noticed that the death was listed as: hostile; hostile while missing; hostile, died of wounds; non-hostile, injury or illness.... It did make it very real.

I feel bad, and I think it is right that I feel bad. It is tragic. Every person I saw looked like a good person...whatever such a person looks like! I hope the veterans who live receive good health care and benefits and the that the families of the fallen are cared for. I do not like to see cuts in services for veterans.

Having been in the crowd watching the NYC Veterans Day Parade of 2001, I can assure you there were tons of people who new exactly what that day was for. It was an unbelievable moving experience.

If not for the political message jargon would be even more massively impactful. It was moving. In the essence that 2000 people and their families have lost something so precious.. for something they beleive in.

as i said in the original post, not looking for a political arguement. eta: but not all died for something they believed in.....documentation in personal letters has verified that. however, they did die doing their duty. as a soldier, one follows orders regardless of whether one believes in the cause or not. again, not looking for political arguement, just issuing a clarifying statement.

the pictures of the young, middle aged...and women... i spent more time looking at the faces than reading the messages. their humanity: some of the pictures were in civilian attire, some in uniform. it was sobering to say the least. and it brings home that war is more than just numbers. there are faces behind those numbers. no matter what side of the political arena any of us are, i think it pays to remember that. and to find that i had only viewed 500 of the 2000...... very very powerful.

i remember reading about the vietnam memorial in washington dc when the artist was designing it but i had no idea how it would effect me. i just thought it was going to be a piece of stone art with the names on it. but it was so much more moving than that. i have visited that memorial twice and have been unable to control my sobs.
