What does "in the near future" mean???

I guess this is a classic case of trying to determine "boy-soon." Thought I'd get some opinions while I obsess about it....

I am looking into changing jobs, and if I did, the cost of health insurance would go up. If BF and I were to get married, I would then be on his great insurance. So, we were talking about what I should do about this new job and I told him that if I knew I would eventually be on his insurance it may help me make my decision. We've talked about marriage for a year or more, and he asked my dad for his blessing nearly TWO months ago!!! But still no proposal. During this discussion the other day, BF said that it would happen "in the near future, meaning within the next few months."

To me, (girl-soon) that means anytime between NOW and the end of the year maybe? But could boy-soon mean lots longer than that?? Anyone care to guess?

I know, I know, just enjoy the anticipation.......

In the near future in boy-speak means about 2 months.

boy soon and girl soon are most often not the same, but it can''t hurt to ask...just so you can make the best choice for you regarding the job (oh, and you''ll get to have a timeframe as well, which is never bad!).

in boy talk, could mean anything from a month to one year to sometime in the next decade. they do not have the same sense of time as us. I''m not even sure they understand the passage of time. Give it a month or 2, then go back and ask him for more specifics.
