I just received this ring as a gift and I''m not really sure what it is but I heard it might be citrine(?)

It is from Mexico and set in 925 sterling silver. It''s quite nicely made and I will happily wear it irregardless of if it''s "real" or not but I''m just curious to know what it is incase someone asks

If someone asks tell them it''s a really pretty orange stone you received as a gift. There''s no way to identify it without gemological testing. It could be citrine but it could also be one of several other stones including several types of man-made gems. Only proper testing can tell for sure.

It could be anything from synthetic to a real stone. There is just no way to guess. It is nevertheless a well cut stone in a pretty setting, so I wouldn’t worry about it.

As Chrono says, there is no way of knowing. A picture is never sufficient.

Funnily enough, it looks almost exactly (on the screen of the computer I''m using right now at least...) like a very rare fancy zoisite put online today (I know that gem is not a zoisite though):

It reminds me of a sunstone, but it''s probably not that either.

Whatever it is, it''s pretty.

thanks for the advice everyone. i won't worry about what it is then :)
