For those of you who have been fitted with your dresses, do you mind sharing what happens at these events?

I am very curious, with mine coming up in about a month.

How many fittings did you all have and what happened at each event?

I''m getting paranoid because I tend to lose weight when I''m stressed/at the very last minute and I predict I will lose about 5 pounds AFTER the fitting. So what does one do when the dress is sliding down due to the extra room? Ya know? Should I wait till the last minute to get fitted?

Depends on whether you ordered off the rack or made to measure.

I ordered made to measure, and they have done calico fittings (2). Then the gown is cut from this calico. My gown will be ready on Saturday (2 weeks before I fly out for our DW. At my fitting on Saturday, they will make any minor alterations, but it should only be taken in a smidge due to the few kilos I have lost in the past 4 weeks. The length, shape etc was determined from the calico. It has also saved me lots in alterations fees!

For your final fitting, I would suggest you wear the lingerie you plan to wear on the day, and bring your shoes to determine what length they need to make the gown. Also, it''s nice to have your accessories so you can get an idea of the final picture.

Good luck!

I just had my fitting last night! It was great - you need to take your shoes and your undergarments you will be wearing (spanx for me). The seamstress was awesome - mine actually needs to be let out a little bit...it was a sample that was too tight originally, and the zipper is pulling apart. She''s going to let it out in the ribcage, and cut off a halter strap, and hem the bottom to floor length.

I am hoping to lose 5 more lbs before the wedding, so losing weight is not really a concern of mine, but I have to go back in two weeks (two weeks before the wedding) for the final fitting. I would guess at that point if you had lost weight, they would take it in for you a bit more. They really can work miracles on those dresses!

I would probably see if you can schedule a final fitting as close to your date as possible, but you definitely want to have your first fitting sooner than that. You will need to bring your shoes and undergarments as pp said. If the dress is too big at all they will pin it so they know where it needs to be taken in, they will also check on your hem, unless you are super tall, or had the dress made to your exact hem to hollow measurements, then you are probably going to need a hem. I am 5''9 and wore 2.5 inch heels and still needed a bit of a hem. You will also discuss what type of bustle you would like, so I would suggest looking around online to get an idea of what you like. They can kind of pin it in place to give you an idea of the options, but it is easier, IMO, if you have an idea of what the different finished products look like.

my first fitting was 2 months before my wedding day. you have to wear the shoes and underwear (bra or corsette) you plan to wear under your dress.

the 2nd fitting was 1 month before the wedding, and I brought my mom so that she could find out how to get me in the dress and learn all the hooks, zippers and buttons. it fitted perfectly so nothing had to be done.

then when I picked up my dress a week before the wedding, they fitted me just in case and everything still was fine and I took it home.
