I have been a long-time lurker here, but it's time to come out!
This year, Pricescope has been my guilty pleasure, enjoyed during the day (if I managed to get my two under two to sleep at the same time), or in the evening if my DH was occupied elsewhere. It has been my (literally) often sole shiny moment amidst all the glorious grime of stay-at-home mummyhood. I found the forum after my DH okayed an upgrade of sorts, after the birth of our two bubs. I found that my engagement ring (will post pics) had to be almost permanently shelved after the birth of my first little one due to its size, heaviness, but especially the sharpness of its prongs. Most mums will know how careful you have to be with baby skin; that's why I wish my Mum had told me to get a low-set bezel engagement ring, lol. A pic of neatfreak's bezel on google images led me here, and the first time I saw an AVC I literally lost my breath. So that's what I'm upgrading to: a low-set platinum AVC to be precise, once I decide on the setting and the AVC, lol.
I promise to post pics once all is said and done (which will be very, very soon), but in the meantime I want to share my favourite pieces that I am incredibly lucky to own and wear, as well as to show where I've come from and where I'm heading to.
My great-grandmother had been kicking around in the dust on her cattle station here in Queensland, Australia, when she unearthed this massive 'rock'. She had the rock cut and made into a ring for my Mum's 16th birthday, and I was lucky enough to inherit it on my 21st birthday. I don't exactly know what the stone is, and I don't really care; the ring is priceless to me, and I wear it every day (when I leave the house, anyway). It is incredibly white inside, but very very blue in sunlight. And it's huge--over 10mm. So when my then-fiance and I started looking for rings, no solitaire (that we could afford at the time) compared. I ended up getting a vintagesque platinum flower ring made as my engagement ring. It 'went' better with my Mum's ring than a solitaire would have. But it's large and complex, but more of a right hand ring, I think now.
I love clean lines at heart, and I crave a simple solitaire to wear every day, while changing nappies, cleaning endlessly, bathing babies, gardening etc. I know I won't be the first person here to downgrade size for everyday wear, but I'll always love taking these two rings on special outings.
Here they are.
